new puppy problem

Hi

I have a 3 year old labrador boy and I just adopted a 4 month old westie girl, they basically spend most of the day together inside my room and the backyard (both connected) they get along pretty well, you know they play and hang out all day long BUT I have noticed that many times when the westie is peeing (in the backyard) the labrador pees on her or very near her, so she gets pee in her body

This is a problem because i have had to bathe her twice this week I have catched him in the act and said "no" to him very firmly, he understands the meaning of the word but it hasnt worked for this behavior in particular

Is there something I can do about this? they are going to spend at least three years toghether (until my brother moves out, as the labrador is his)

Please help me

It's probably not very funny to you, but picturing the two of them sure made me laugh!! What a funny sight...

Anyway, two of my dogs are always peeing on the same spot. One will go, the other will wait and then go right where the first one went. I'm sure it's an instinctual, territory, dominance thing that can't be "fixed" at the source. But I bet the behavior can be changed.

I would try squirting the lab with a water bottle when he starts peeing on the puppy. Do something that won't scare or hurt the dog but irritates him enough that, when he connects "pee on puppy = get squirted", he'll stop.

Good luck!

lol actually it made me laugh also. anyway I think squirting the lab with a little water may help. but what I would do is hold the lab on his leash until the westie is done with her business. Or watch them very close when you take them out to pee/poo

Re: new puppy problem

thanks

I will try squirting the lab whenever I catch him, unfortunatelly I'm not always around when she has to go outside to pee but I will do my bets to be there
