Re: What Breed Is This?

Awe, how cute! It kind of reminds me of a Japanese Chin, although I don't know if they come in solid white and they have more hair. The first one looks different then the second one - the first one has the long ears like a Chin, but the second one doesn't.
Maybe the second one is a mix. Maybe they're both mixes - designer breeds? The problem with designer breeds is the results are inconsistant so no two litters ever really look the same.

The second one looks like a little puppy so that might be why is difficult to tell.

Good luck!

Re: What Breed Is This?

It's a shaved Pekingese

If you really want one then you eed to do lots of research and make dure thay are the right dog for you. Yes looks are the first thing you see, but you can't get a dog just based on lokks, they aren't fashion accesories. There are many breeds that have a similar look to the Pek, especially a shaved one. Here's the AKC website so you can find out more about the breeds out there and find out which is best for you. AKC

Also keep in mind once you find the breed for you that all dogs are genetically predisposed to some sort of problem. You'll need to do months-years of research to find a reputable that produces healthy dogs that suit your needs.

Thanks animalcracker....I really do appreciate your help in this matter. Really I do... but I do know I have to look into the breed itself (once I find out what it is). I have a pug already, and am not a Paris Hilton, thank you.

Re: What Breed Is This?

Yep, Pekingese.

Having a Peke, and knowing several Pugs, there's some similarities, and quite a few differences. They have similar structure, and are prone to many of the same health risks (breathing problems, eye problems, skin problems, especially with the nose wrinkle). Pekes have shorter legs (bowed in front to give them a distinctive waddle) and a longer back, so they're at risk for back injuries like Dachshunds and Bassetts and other long backed dogs.

Of the Pekes and Pugs I've met, Pugs tend to be way friendlier and more outgoing. Pekes tend to be reserved. Mine takes a long time to warm up to strangers, is very territorial, and barks at what he views as tresspassers. I know one Peke who is a well-behaved dollbaby when she's at the vet, but the owner confessed that she's bitten every worker they've had come to the house during their remodel.

They're also independent and stubborn, like a cat. They are very smart and trainable, though. Beavis was the best in his obedience class, and loves to do tricks. I joke about my dog, "He's not a bad dog, he's just a typical Pekingese." He's not Lassie. He's not born to please. But he knows his stuff.

If the coat is kept long, it requires a lot of grooming to be kept tangle free.

Pekes were bred to be the palace companion of emperors, and haven't forgotten it. But they're also excellent court jesters, and loads of fun to have around.

Re: What Breed Is This?

They come in all colors. Fawn seems to be the most common, like mine (a red fawn with black half-mask and ear tipping, and white feet and chest, see below), but there's also white, black, bi color, tri color... pretty much any color imaginable. White was thought to be the most prized color in ancient china. No matter what the color, they're supposed to have black on the nose and muzzle.

Oh yes! I agree w/ everyone. I thought it was just a Pekingnese, but i thought for sure that pup would grow it's hair.
