good luck

| Re: Pregnant dog help!!!! Granted that she is pregnant, this could really put a strain on her body. She is not finished growing at 7 months. She will not finish growing and developing until close to 18 to 24 moths of age. When an immature (as in not fully grown and matured) becomes pregnant, she now has to devote energy to nurturing a litter of pups as well as growing. As a survival instinct, the body devotes most of the energy and attention to raising the litter to furter the species. Veterinarians will tell you that a bitch should be bred until 2 years of age for this very reason. You should contact you veterinarian immediately. There is a shot, although not very popular, that will abort the puppies if she is pregnant. It is sort of like the Morning after pill. ***Please do not think I condone abortion. This is just a suggestion that may save your female from an early pregnancy.***
But I agree with Shalva, that may be your best bet.

| Re: Pregnant dog help!!!! Have her spayed and have the male neutered. They are at the perfect age for it and like sweetardnas1885 said she has to be 2 years old to be bred for it to be safe and even then it isn't safe.
Just out of curiosity why didn't you seperate them if she was in heat? |

| Re: Pregnant dog help!!!! I can understand thinking they are too young but when a bitch is in heat there are definite signs am I right? The vulva is swollen and red and she bleeds etc. I don't know alot about breeding and that but.......wouldn't she be displaying signs? |

| Re: Pregnant dog help!!!! The best advice has already been said - good luck, and I hope everything turns out alright. Hopefully it will turn out without ill effects, and it will serve as a very important lesson to you, despite blatant warnings from people advising people to alter nonworking or showing stock or at the very least separate intact males and females. |

bitches can have silent heats....
Shalva keeps herself so clean that I can easilly miss her being in season if I am not charting it and know when to start paying attention and checking her.... so while yes there are signs there can also be cases where the person just doesn't know.....
the best thing at this point is to just have them spayed and if she can only afford to do one right now... getting the girl spayed is most important |

| Re: Pregnant dog help!!!! My chinese crested powderpuff is almost 2, she was recently spayed, but never showed signs of being in heat. I know that she was, but we could never tell. Some of my friends dogs have never shown signs either, so sometimes you may not be able to tell. |

| Re: Pregnant dog help!!!! And you want ten+ more? Maybe nine if the mother has problems.
Im not one to rag (and I am not ragging on you) on people but you should know how hard it is to find GOOD homes for pits. There are enough that die each day. |

| Re: Pregnant dog help!!!! I dont think hes going to get his dog spayed. It looks like hes going to just wait and see if she is going to become pregnant. Thats too bad for the poor little girl, theres no way she could get through it, 10 puppies, she is wayy too young.
I really hope you spare her the life threatening event and get her spayed or maybe even the shot they give, if its not too late. |

Sometimes the first heat is very light and nearly unnoticable. If a person doesn't know what they are looking for, it could be missed.
I think you've been given excellent advice. Have your girl spayed, which will stop the pregnancy and prevent future ones. I would have the boy nuetered too. |

I think allowing your female to carry these puppies to term would be highly irresponsible as a "breeder" and/or pet owner. If you didn't want any puppies why do you have two unaltered animals that are constantly in contact? I'm sorry, I do not intend to sound rude. I just do not understand your reasoning here. You either come out of this situation with a severely compromise mother and quite possibly sickly puppies, a dead mother and a litter of puppies to hand raise, or with a litter of dead puppies and a dead mother. On the other hand, everything could turn out fine, but you are 3 times more likely to have problems. Is it worth risking your female's life? If you answer yes to that question, there is a serious problem here.

I worked for a breeder of Chinese Shar Pei's and when a female went into heat the intact male dogs go crazy. If any of the males are together during that time there is a risk of a potentially deadly fight, ESPECIALLY since the dogs you have are pit bulls (extremely powerful dogs).
Your males are at risk not only from your other males but from the female also. I know that the female can get really irritated by the males when they are trying to "get" her, and she could turn on them.
Hormones can make even the sweetest of dogs go crazy. So please at least spay your female before its too late. |
