| Questionable Breeders/Brokers/Puppy Millers List? Hello,
I am new to the forum and wanted to know if there is a list of questionable or unscrupulous breeders/brokers. What is the general feeling on this forum about discussing these issues?

| Re: Questionable Breeders/Brokers/Puppy Millers List? That I know of, I don't think there is a compiled list that anyone has posted on this site that targets specific breeders, companys, etc - although there is the occasional warning or deterrance such as the concerns with Petland. Personally, I think it's better to education people on the right way of buying a pup instead of discrediting or bashing on bad breeders, however dishonorable they may be.

-Hannah | Welcome !!! It's definitely worth discussing, but I doubt that such a list could be in a public forum because of the risk of charges of libel/slander and restraint of trade, etc. Even DNA (do not adopt) lists are normally only posted within 'members only' groups. Do you know of any other warning lists about businesses or groups of people? |

| Re: Questionable Breeders/Brokers/Puppy Millers List? I am not aware of any lists.
Defamation law should not chill the free expression of first hand experiences. If someone signs onto this forum and posts a true story, no laws have been broken.
I wish that there was one central website or forum that dealt with this very issue. So soon-to-be dog owners could log on and read feedback, legit or not.
What do you think?

| There is a fine line between free expression and slander, and when there is big business involved it can get pretty dangerous to play the gamble. Like I said, I honestly think more time should be spent focusing on educating the public on how to find an ethical and responsible breeder. |

This isn't actually a public forum. It is privately owned. And since most jurisdictions allow legal actions, it's not worth the risk, regardless of how the internet is viewed as a medium. |

| Re: Questionable Breeders/Brokers/Puppy Millers List? I wish we could have a list of all the bad breeders out there. Especially for cavaliers, they have soo many health problems I'm shocked when "breeders" aren't even aware that they have any problems. But could you imagine how long the list of breeders would be to include all the bad ones, it would be much easier to just list the good breeders. |
