I don't know...what ARE you looking at? Should I be seeing something? A picture maybe? Is it raised? Swollen? Fuzzy? Gooey?

Re: Dog has black spot on tongue...

It's normal. Some dogs have black spots on their tounges. My sister's Golden Retriever has one and I asked her about it. She said it was common in Goldens.

dog-has-black-spot-rgsd.jpg (Ruby my rescue) Notice the black spots on the right side of the tongue. If this is what you are talking about it is caused by extra pigmentation.

Elsa has a dime sized black spot on her tongue and it's nothing more than a birth mark and harmless. I hope your dog's is the same.

Re: Dog has black spot on tongue...

My little guy (5 months old) has a lot of black spots on his tongue. He is lab/chow mix so this is normal for him. Alot of breeds have that. It's a pigmentation thing. But, if it only just appeared and wasn't there when he was born, or up until recently, then have it checked out by a vet.

What kind of dog is it?

Good luck.

Re: Dog has black spot on tongue...

My ex bf has a Newfie and he has a big black spot. He used to joke he had his tongue pierced like his mommy (me).

If it's a new development, I'd be concerned. However, it's fairly common in most dogs; mixed or PBs.

Yeah I thought you were being sarcastic, but then you threw the smiley face in it and I thought it could be true!

<-----This does not look sarcastic!
