Re: Shalva's puppy xray.....

Good luck with the litter. I really hope it all goes well. Looking forward to seeing the pics of mother and babies all doing well.

I'm intrigued by how you will know when Shalva has finished whelping - we can see the 8 pups on the x-ray but you say you might be expecting 9. What happens if Shalva appears to have finished after 8? I ask because my friend's bitch had 9 and then appeared to have finished, but a 10th was born about 10 hours later (after the bitch had had a well-earned nap), and unfortunately it was dead.

sometimes you don't know, its not sure proof but it gives you more of an idea.... I know with Meghans last litter we counted five on the xray.... she had 7.... and when we thought she was all done..... we felt around her belly and felt a lump.... and we both looked at each other and were like hmmmmm wonder what that is......??????? a half hour later she had the last puppy..... there is generally a change in moms behavior when she is totally done and you can see it.....

but nothing is sure fire

Re: Shalva's puppy xray.....

Thanks. I think my friend's bitch was just tired out after giving birth to 9, and she stopped straining and seemed content to suckle her pups, so they assumed she was all done. Hard to feel a six inch pup inside a wolfhound too.. but still a shame one died.

Well, I hope you all have an easy and uncomplicated time with Shalva and that she doesn't deprive you of too much sleep!

Re: Shalva's puppy xray.....

I had never seen an x-ray of pups before. Thank you so much for sharing that with us. I can't wait to see the pup pics once they're born. Good luck with the birthing.
