| Flirtpole? I was wondering how many people use a flirtpole?
Both my girls love to play with it and it is a great source of exercise.
After a few weeks my mini schnauzer lost a little weight and really toned up. |

| Re: Flirtpole? A long pole with a rope at the end and a toy attached to the rope (fishing pole like).
You move the pole around and the dog chases the toy.
Kinda like a cat chasing a string. |

| Re: Flirtpole? I call it a lure pole, and I do use one from time to time on our pups. Bamboo makes a great lure pole b/c it's sturdy and lightweight. I tend to use whatever I have around the house. Yarn works well for the string b/c it's less likely to cut their gums if they catch that instead. I use a white plastic bag b/c that's what our pups use for lure coursing, though I have used a toy before and it works very well. |

I made my own with some PVC and rope. It was about $10.

Do you allow your dogs to jump for the lure? I heard that jumping was bad for their backs. |

| Re: Flirtpole? I use one of those. Mine is a bamboo pole about 3 feet long with 5 feet of rope attached and a litle ball with rubbery fringes all over it that Chloe loves to chase. Sadie is still trying to figure it out but she will play with it occasionally. It is funny to watch, Chloe uses her paws like a cat to catch the rubbery ball. |

| Re: Flirtpole? we had one of those for our male BC when he was younger but he couldn't play w/ it for long b/c of his HD.....when we first got it for him it was his 1st Bday---my son and i took him to the store to pick out his toy and this is what he chose; all the way home he carried the ball in his mouth w/ my son holding the stick and we didn't even need the leash on him......
i want to find a "zip ball" (this is one of those toys w/ 2 ropes w/ handles on each end and a ball that they're "threaded" thru.....when you pull the handles apart, the ball "zips" to the other end for the person there to zip back to you......he loved that as well till he couldn't do that anymore..... |

I usually don't b/c they chase the lure on the ground so that's where I want them to practice chasing it. They get plenty of jumping practice going after the birds who insist on trying to live in our yard |

| Re: Flirtpole? I have seen the youtube video before, I think the owner is a member of another forum I am on.
My mini schnauzer tries but she is a little small to jump like that (it is kinda funny watching her try), my mix is still a bit young and doesn't land right, so we might work a bit more on that.
I like the pole because it is great exercise in a short amount of time. Quote:

I wish I had a place for one, I am stuck with a tug rope wraped around my backside because my mix pulls so hard and it hurts my hands.

| Re: Flirtpole? My pug/rat terrier jumps like that. Not quite as high but she's a jumper. That pit bull puts shame to mine. My pit bull is huge compared to that one, either just fat or way too out of shape lol. His name is Marley, he weighs just a little over 90 pounds. |

All 4 of our pits love it and it keeps them in shape. We have it hanging in our back yard now for the summer. It took the neighbors a while to get use to seeing dogs hunging in mid air but they do love it.... |

| Re: Flirtpole? We are staying out at the lake all week and I brought the pole.
We played for a hour in the water, Jade is crashed out but her muscles look great.
I tried with my schnauzer but she don't like water that much. Jager can't swim that good and when she gets neck deep her but floats, she doesn't like that. |
