Freddie

I've had my dog Freddie for just over 2 weeks now. He's been SO good, the only thing he's done wrong is jump on the couch once the first day we got him, and a stern "no" was all he needed to get off and not do it again.

Well my boyfriend and I went to the Red Sox game (and Manny hit 2 homers! WOOT), and since we were going to be gone from about 4pm to midnight, we didn't want to put him in his crate for so long. Since he's been so good, we just left him with the kitchen and living room, the stairs and the upstairs hallway to roam in. We were thinking of blocking the kitchen off so he only had that, but we did it once and he jumped over his crate to get upstairs and I was afraid if we did it again, he'd get his little paw stuck in the crate.

So, we got home at Midnight, and Freddie was on the couch!! Not such a bad thing, we turned on the light and BAM! The house was a MESS! We have his bed in the middle of the living room, which was COVERED in papers, wrappers, treats, bones, and other stuff. He had gotten into where we keep his treats! He ate almost half of the stuff we had, bones, pigs ears, marrow chewies. He even opened up one of those tubes with the bacon treats in it and ate all of those. Then he chewed up his bed!! Bad dog! Haha, I guess it was our fault though because we didn't close the treat drawer all of the way, and we were gone for 8 hours (first time we've been gone that long when we've had him), and he probably just got bored! At least he didn't chew our couch!!

Haha now looking back it's silly because you know all those commercials for cat litter, when the parents go away and then the resident cat has a party and then the headlights shine in and everyone scrams? That's what it reminded me of, haha, but poor Freddie got left with the mess to get blamed on.

Re: Freddie

sounds like your dog is unhappy when you leave. a little crate training will solve that problem.

Re: Freddie

We are crate training him. I said we didn't want to leave him in the crate for 8 hours. It's unfair to the dog. We put him in the crate every other time. He probably just got bored.

How about a dog walker if you are going to be gone that long and don't want to keep him in a crate. If you came home to that much damage you wouldn't want to come home and find the dog hurt, they can just get into anything. I from experience have had a few vet trips due ot no one watching the dog.
