Impromptu shelters popping up for displaced pets

I am not sure if I am allowed to do this or not, but I guess they can delete it if need be.

Many of you may have heard about the tornado in Greensburg Kansas. There mary already be a post, I haven't taken the time to check.

A tornado hit the town of Greensburg Kansas last night about 8:45 PM Central Standard time. It was probably a mile wide and went for 26 miles. 95% of the town is gone. This is a small town, but 9 of 400 to 450 people are dead and 70+ hurt some in critical condition.

I have posted two websites that gives you information regarding how you can help.

My heart goes out to all those who lost everything, but it also went out to the pets that are displaced, the farm animals that are hurt and suffering. I was up until 4 am last night watching this story unfold. I am about 2 hours from there. I got up and called my vet, and they were forming a task force to go there and assist in any way they can. My Vet, bless his heart was preparing to put down farm animals that were in pain, so there were several cases of syringes and medicine. I asked him what I can do, he said just show up here asap! I got there and helped a number of other pet owners load a truck with items that were really going to put our four legged friends down. My Vet was vividly distraught, and I asked him if he was ok, he said no, because he got a report of several horses who might be the ones he will have to put down.

I can't confirm what is happening there since I am not allowed to go, and there is a curfew imposed right now.

I am looking into the rescue center to see if I can foster any of our friends pets while they rebuild.

Thank you and remember to tell your family and friends you love them

Re: Impromptu shelters popping up for displaced pets

I heard about this storm on the news earlier today, very sad if you ask me. It always is nice to hear about the good that comes from it though, people who step up to the plate to help those affected by tragedy. I'm glad to hear you are helping in every way you can and I hope that you have the strength to continue to do so.

Re: Impromptu shelters popping up for displaced pets

Thank you.

As of right now I am DOG tired, and ready to hit the hay. But for some reason I can't sleep, plus the state it getting hit again.

Kansans can bounce back from there storms. We will be ok, it just broke my heart to see the Pet clinic and MY vet going through this.

Thanks again.

Oh yeah, my spouse and I are buying bags of dog food to send on the relief trucks tomorrow, I hope that will work for now.
