| Teaching a dog to "read?" Just curious...Has anyone on this forum ever taught their dog to "Read?" I think it'd be SO much fun to do that. If I ever get a dog that isn't a guide, I want to teach him/her that! It'd be fun to tell friends, "My dog knows how to read!" Lol... |

| Re: Teaching a dog to "read?" I've never personally taught my dogs things like that, but I have a friend whose dog can dial 911. He has seizures, and his dog is trained that when he falls down, the dog calls 911. |

| Re: Teaching a dog to "read?" I always wanted to teach Cubby to drive a car. He was very attentive when I was driving and I think he was taking notes. Of course, if he were driving, we'd only go to the dog park or the lake, so we'd run out of groceries.
Unfortunately, he died at 14. In Wisconsin, you have to be 15-1/2 to get your learner's permit. |

| Re: Teaching a dog to "read?" I had a black lab that I swear could read the kitchen clock. She ate her dinner at 6:30pm almost every day. And almost every day, she would come into the kitchen and look at the clock, and if it was 6:30 or later, she would follow me around and poke me as if to remind me I am late serving her dinner, but if it was not yet 6:30, she would go back in the family room and lay down. It was one of the funniest things I ever saw. |

| Re: Teaching a dog to "read?" I don't think a dog NEEDS a clock (not even a watch dog.)
I used to take my lab to my store every day. The last thing I did at the end of the day was to back up the point of sale data on a Zip disk. When I'd push the eject button for the disk, the dog would jump up and head for the back door.
We think they're snoozing but they are studying us. To what end, I can't say. Maybe they can ALREADY read and they just aren't letting on.
I did find a copy of Humans for Dummies next to Esther's bed the other day and a mysterious charge from Amazon.com on my MasterCard. |
