When do dogs stop growing?

I ask because I think my sheltie is huge! It's ok, the breeder told me he was going to be oversized, but I'd like to know what to expect. It may be impossible to predict, I know. The breed standard for shelties is 13" - 16", and right now he is 15 weeks and 14" tall, an inch taller than my other sheltie, who is older than him. When we are out, people mistake him for a collie, aussie, and even a husky. So anyway, I've heard six months, I've heard one year, and I've heard two years. Which is it?

I think it depends on the breed--some large breed dogs can grow for up to two years...(Newfoundlands for example)

Actually, Giant breeds can grow up to three years. Your sheltie should start slowing down around 6-7 months, but may continue to grow untill 18 months.
