Re: Chinese Crested

Only saw them at dog shows. I like the powderpuff vs the naked ones a lot better. Same with the sphynx cats - I really want fur on cats - not bare skin.

Re: Chinese Crested

I adore cresteds- especially the hairless variety. They were our second option after papillons, actually. We nearly ended up with them, but paps were a better fit. I still love cresteds. I love the way they move, like little horses.

Yes! They are very graceful..Papillons have longer hair right? Don't you think its sooo adorable when they stand outside and the wind blows their hair, and they stick their heads out and sniff the air? Lol Maybe its just me..?

Re: Chinese Crested

I love cresteds, my family thinks I am nuts but I think they are so cool looking and I love their personality. Unfortunately I don't have the time for another dog right now nor the money that it would take to get me a crested. I would prefer the hairless one to the powderpuff personally though. I met a lady at the mall near my house who has a crested and he is hairless and his skin was so warm. He is trained as a service dog because she is in a wheel chair and he was so nice! He looked just like a little person sitting on her lap with his fancy collar and his nifty hair-doo.

Re: Chinese Crested

There is a lady who lives somewhere near Toronto and she breeds them and she is a really good breeder to. She used to breed yorkies only but then she discovered cresteds so now she has two yorkies and three cresteds. I emaild her sometime ago and asked her about them and she said I would have to apply then she would have to tour my house etc etc and THEN she would give me a price so I am sure they are VERY expensive. As it is the lady who I met at the mall said her dog was $1350 and she got him from a breeder in the states and his training was another few thousand dollars.

Re: Chinese Crested

Wow..thats alot..I also love yorkies..but I'm like addicted to cresteds..I have crested shirts and things..They are a truly amazing breed. All that I have met are very sweet and I love the way they walk. I would love another one, but mom said can't have any more dogs until I move out on my own, and have the money to pay for one myself. Where at in Canada are you? My dad lives in Edmonton

Re: Chinese Crested

All toys are expensive... one of toy dogs' downsides.

$1350 is actually a pretty low price (at least for my breed). $1800 seems about usual for paps and cavs.

Re: Chinese Crested

really? Down here, in good ol' NC the highest I've seen a dog go for is 1000$. If I start looking online the prices are alot higher, but 1000$ is pretty good to people in NC lol.

Re: Chinese Crested

Sphynx have a little peach fuzz on the feet, face or ears, sometimes a tiny bit on the tail, but the body IS hairless. IMO its creepy feeling. The only redeeming factor is they have a rex personality - I showed and bred cornish rexes.

I was referring to petting fur on a dog or a cat - not bare skin.

Re: Chinese Crested

The highest I've seen is $10,000 to import a Japanese champion. And well, the person was paying $10000 for a fourth of the dog- there were four owners! When we were looking for a papillon, the CHEAPEST we could find from a reputable breeder was $1400 pet quality.

Wow..thats crazy..If I had met the dog first, and got to know him or her, and I was totally in love with him or her I would pay that, but not even knowing what I was getting into, I probably wouldn't pay that much.
