Dogs got into food and shredded ziploc bag

I'm pet sitting for friends. We have a 5 month old puppy, and they have two adult dogs. The adult dogs are EXTREMELY food motivated. We have been very careful to keep the food separate for all dogs. Well, we brought over a ziploc bag of the puppy food for tonight (since we are staying over with all the dogs). I left all 3 of them in the kitchen (puppy proof room) with bones and beds etc. Unfortunately, I left the ziploc bag of food in our dog's bowl on the island in the middle of the kitchen. I didn't really think about clearing off all counters, as none of the dogs are all that big, but I think the BC was able to get up there and retrieve the food. When I got home, there was little pieces of ziploc bag all over the place. I think the two older dogs annhilated the food and then our puppy killed the bag, but I can't be sure. I don't know if anyone actually ATE any plastic, but I'm worried that it could be bad for them. Will dogs pass small pieces of plastic bag like this? Should I be calling vets? They all seem fine and we plan on watching them closely for any odd signs. I just can't account for all of the bag. I'm not exactly sure any is missing, but I don't think I have enough pieces for the entire thing.

Has often happened with various items around here, sometimes resulting in technicolor poop, depending on the item chewed! I would keep an eye on everyone for the next 2-3 days (elimination time factor) and if anyone starts vomiting, doesn't pass any stool, or looses their appetite...I might consider a trip to the vet. You are basically watching for anything that might have blocked the intestines causing things to come back up or not come out.

I would be prepared for perhaps a day of two of diarrhea--no pun intended but this too shall pass!

Agree with briteday - watch everyone VERY closely for a few days. Signs of vomiting, lethargy, constipation or anything abnormal should not be taken lightly..
