Volunteering help!

Hi ,

I recently have talked to a person from a really cool dog rescue and she said that youth could help out ( I'm 12 so I'm excited!!!) So she said the adoption day is today . Now I haven't started volunteering yet , but i wanted to go to this adoption day to see if there was anyway i could sign up for volunteering there and not have to send email... hehe.

Well I told my mom...and she said no! No? No? Are you kidding me???She knows I really wanted to help! But she rather go shopping? Yes I know she won't be shopping for her self...actually it's for clothes for me ..but still.... I mean If this is going to be the case every 1st Sunday , 3rd Sunday ,and last Sunday and Saturday of each month......what will I do?

I asked two places if I could volunteer , the cool one I mention above..and our pups vet/adoption center place.. The Vet/adoption center place said sure..as long a parent or gaurdian would do the training classes also.... ..

She said no to that one . But now shes saying no to this one...its not even fair...she knows I love animals and would LOVE to help them out . And even though I would love to take them all home I can't .

Then she starts saying that I should take care of my dog first..and I do.. I clean up after accidents , take her out and give her food and water... and play with her....and go to school!

I don't get it .! Its today at 12-4 ...and we don't have to be there the whole time . and its not like she wakes up at 12 ! I've been looking soo foward to helping out at a shelter ...and now that I have a great chance I can't!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ugh

Thanks

Ali

Re: Volunteering help!

I'm sorry your mom won't let you go! I don't really have any great advice for you except to try and convince her of all of the good that would come of you volunteering. Maybe convince her to let you go once a month - start small and maybe you can get to go more? As far as spending time with your own dog - maybe suggest to your mom that you would like to enroll in some formal training classes - if she sees that you are really committed, maybe she will have second thoughts about letting you volunteer!
