| Need a good dog blanket Hey guys. As you know, Jaylie's always with me. I am training her to kennel onto a blanket, and stay there while I'm at a party or something, but all of the blanket's that are light enough to be carried with me without hassel, she "nests" on, and that's not acceptable, since I want her to be able to get up and move around, just STAYING ON THE BLANKET. When it's all bunched up, there's not exactly boundaries for her. So, basically what I've been looking for is something that will stay on the ground, but is lightweight enough to be carried quite a way's, without hassel. It would be really nice for when I go to a party that has running games or something moving around, and I can't have Jaylie at my side. I don't want to just put her in a stay, because, once again, I want her to be able to make herself comfortable, just staying in one specific layed out spot. I will be teaching her what "her" blanket means, and what she's to do on it. So, anybody who know's of a blanket like this, please tell me about it! (It also has to be pretty durable, because Jaylie tends to chew...still a pup you know!) |

| Re: Need a good dog blanket I just saw a dog blanket at Costco this week, price was reasonable. It is actually marketed as a throw for a sofa or other furniture that the dog lays on to keep the fur off the upholstery. But I don't see why you couldn't use it for your dog's "spot" to stay in a certain area while you are occupied. |

| Re: Need a good dog blanket I think I know what you are talking about. Don't know of a blanket like that This may sound silly but have you seen the tents, tunnels for kids can't think what they are called but the thing is made of a tight mesh and has a frame around it that can be folded. At ne point in unfolding my granddaughters it is a flat surface probably 36 by 36 inches that sounds like it would work to me. I. Just now thought of the name, playhut I think |

| Re: Need a good dog blanket instead of going and spending an arm and twelve legs for a blanket for that purpose. Go to the nearby walmart in your area and purchase some polar fleece. If you can sew, sew two different patterns together in the shape of a square, you choose the size. If you cant sew, make a no sew one. Cut large fringe right around the edges of the blanket, and tie every other piece of fringe to the other from the second pattern. you can fold, roll it, etc. I tie a ribbon around mine and off we go. I use it for vet appointments, trips to the beach etc. |

| Re: Need a good dog blanket How about a yoga mat or something of that nature? It's soft, it rolls up and it can't be "nested". |

| Re: Need a good dog blanket You can try LL Bean or Cabela's both have online stores and nice pet beds, blankets, etc. Cabela's caters to the hunting/sporting dog so you may find a blanket there that would work. |

| Re: Need a good dog blanket The cushion I have in my dog's crate sounds like it would be perfect. It's just a layer of batting (like they use for upholstery or in quilts), a layer of fleece, and a layer of a cute cotton print (with dogs on it) sewn together. If you have, or know someone with, an overlock (serger) sewing machine, it'd take about 3 minutes to make, and it could be any size you want. Even with a traditional sewing machine, it'd be easy to make.
Unlike a folded blanket, it won't bunch or open up when she lays on it. You could even sew a loop on each side of it to use as a handle when you need to pick it up and carry it. |

| Re: Need a good dog blanket Thanks for all the answers! I think every single one was something I hadn't thought of! Lol...And sadly, I do not sew...I don't have the patience to sit there the whole time! But my sister does. |

| Re: Need a good dog blanket In one of the pet catalogs, catering to show people, maybe it was PetEdge, they have vinyl woven rugs to be placed under ex-pen enclosures. People who show dogs usually set up a tent somewhere on the show grounds, put down this mat, and set up an ex-pen for their dogs. And, if they piddle on it, it goes right through so they are not sitting in it. |

The look really cute and you can make them any size, plus they're cheap. Lots of fabric stores have big collections of dog patterns (paw prints, bones, everything) - Weebles even has one with little Silky Terriers on it.
Another plus is that they are very easy to wash. |
