| Re: i search - need help with a school project Well around here dogs get two chances, three is the judge is feeling nice. The first time a dog bites, the owner is require to muzzle the dog in public at all times, ensure they have a six foot wooden privacy fence encircling their property, the dog must be leashed/chained when put in the fenced yard and if people come to visit then the dog must be muzzled. A second offence mean the dog will be euthanized. If the dog isn't euthanized than the judge will order the dog to be re-homed and/or seen by a certified animal behaviourist and under-go training. The dog has to remain muzzled.
I believe the victims can press charges and/or they may have the right to sue as well depending on the circumstances. For example they wouldn't be allowed to sue the dogs owner if they are in a dog park.
My dogs and I were attacked by a dog a few weeks ago and the dog was immediately euthanized (it had been pretty badly hurt in the attack besides). But I pressed charges against the dogs owner, I didn't sue him but he payed for my vet bills and all the other expenses I incured as a result.
You could probably look up the dog bite laws for you city or area if you go to your local city website and click on by-laws. |
