i search - need help with a school project

ok i got this project from school and i need to get some information about dogs. normally i could just search on the internet and do this but part of the requirments says i need to get the information from a person either on a forum or someone you know. but idk anyone taht knows that much about dogs, so if someone could answer this that would be awesome..

well my question is what are the consequences of a dog doing something bad like biting someone.? like what would happen to the owner/dog/victem. if someone could answer this that would be great . thank you

Owner:
1) The owner may need to file an insurance claim or seek a lawyer.
2) The owner may be required by law to seek the advice of an animal behaviorist.
3) The owner could be sued by the victim.
4) The owner could be arrested if the situation deems it appropriate.
5) The owner may lose all their rights to the dog.
6) The owner may need to pay a fine.
7) The owner may need to pay for the victims damages.

Dog:
1) The dog may be euthanized (put to sleep).
2) The dog may need to wear a muzzle in public.
3) The dog may need to be confined at all times.
4) The dog may need to be rehomed.
5) The dog may be required to attend dog training.

Victim:
1) The victim may need to sue the owner for damages.
2) The victim may need to avoid similar circumstances, like never attending a dog park again out of fear.

I'm sure there's more that can be added, but this is all I have at the moment. Good luck!

This thread (Help Save Hunny From Being Put To sleep its not her time!) illustrates some of consequences of having a dog bite someone.

Orange County Ca is an unknown quantity at this point

I can't add anything to the above but you should contact your local Animal Control Agency, Dog Pound, whatever it's called in your area and get the "official" rules they use.
Let us know if you get a A+.

Well around here dogs get two chances, three is the judge is feeling nice. The first time a dog bites, the owner is require to muzzle the dog in public at all times, ensure they have a six foot wooden privacy fence encircling their property, the dog must be leashed/chained when put in the fenced yard and if people come to visit then the dog must be muzzled. A second offence mean the dog will be euthanized. If the dog isn't euthanized than the judge will order the dog to be re-homed and/or seen by a certified animal behaviourist and under-go training. The dog has to remain muzzled.
I believe the victims can press charges and/or they may have the right to sue as well depending on the circumstances. For example they wouldn't be allowed to sue the dogs owner if they are in a dog park.
My dogs and I were attacked by a dog a few weeks ago and the dog was immediately euthanized (it had been pretty badly hurt in the attack besides). But I pressed charges against the dogs owner, I didn't sue him but he payed for my vet bills and all the other expenses I incured as a result.
You could probably look up the dog bite laws for you city or area if you go to your local city website and click on by-laws.

It really depends on the law/statute in your city/county/state.

Re: i search - need help with a school project

i deal with cases like this all day long pretty well. As everyone has so elequently put to you though, they are right. It depends on the area is which you live. It also depends on whether or not the courts or shelters have any info pertaining to other aggressive behavior in the past. Some shelters base their decisions unfortunately on whether or not they even like the person who owns the dog who attacked the other dog. some will base their decisions on purely on whether or not they like you or whether you have ever had a dog that has biten before.
