| Re: advice ?? - choosing a dog Another medium sized dog to consider is the Shetland Collie. They don't get as big as the standard collie, and require less exercise. Big dogs are always more work than smaller dogs. Shelties are loyal, lovable dogs, but they require almost daily coat maintenance and can bark a lot.
Why not a paplillon? Are you going for the "tough guy" image? My papillon mix is a dainty looking SOB but he has the typical papillon drive. He's an unending ball of energy. I love the little guy, but papillons can be like BCs. Don't think that all small dogs don't require a lot of exercise.
Depending on what you want in a dog personality wise there are many breeds out there to choose from.
Also, there is absolutely nothing wrong with getting a shelter dog. You may need to be patient to get the dog you want from a shelter, but taking in one of those unfortunate dogs is not a bad idea. Just get it checked over for major health issues before getting attached to it. You've already been down the sick dog road. |
