Newfies & Airedales

Hi,
Just a newbie with many questions re: Newfies..we acquired our big girl in Nov. as a default..our DIL had gone to Newfie rescue to get her for our son...DIL ended in hospital with servere allergies, son distraught - we said we'd "foster" the one year old...yeah, right. She waltzed through the door, our two airedales (7 & 5) accepted her immediately, the 17 yr. old cat paid her no mind...and she is ours. To Newfie homes...what sweeper do you use?? I have 4 vaccums (hate them all) and the only one that isn't destroyed (yes, I unplug the hair regularly) is an old Electrolux canister...the airedales have a coat that also blows, but Grace, at 117 with lots and lots of long hair has me stymied..any advice?
Merci a lot,
papeaches

Re: Newfies & Airedales

how about taking her outside everyday or every other day w/ a rake (type of comb) and brush the #@** out of her.....get rid of all that coat and you don't have to worry to much about the vaccuum.....

Yep, daily grooming and grooming and more grooming for at least the next couple months. Double-coated dogs like Newfies go through two serious sheds a year in the spring and fall.

Also, feeding a high quality diet helps.
