| What do they mean... I have had a really bad few days at work and with my health. I have been having test to see if the breast cancer has moved on and it has been getting to me. So has my work load. Sometimes i wonder why i am in the field that i am. Anyway, i have been thinking about my furry babies and how much they mean to me and to our family in general. I look over at Bearla laying on the couch as i sit writing this and it dawns on me. They are my sunlight, my love, my hope for the future. They help me to escape the cold reality of the courtrooms, health clinics and all the stress of the world. I look at them and realize that inside of them is a small angel sent down to us to protect and love us, to make our lives complete and worth going on.
They are our furry children. They are our never ending source of laughter because you never know what they are going to do next. They sit and watch you with those big brown or blue eyes. They trust us unconditionally and want nothing from us except a warm word, a hug or a bit of attention. They want to be protected from pain, hurt and anger. They just want to be loved. They see us look their way and their tails begin to wag. If they are anything like Bearla is, they will even make you go and lay down when they know that you are in need of a rest but you are not aware of it yourself. They can look into our souls and see the love, the pain, the trust. They see it all. When we are away from them it tears some of us apart, others dont think twice of it. Some couldnt care less whether they are being trained in a rough manner, while others of us just want to train all animals in as gentle a fashion as possible.
What do they mean to us?
They mean the world to us. Their eyes are the windows to heaven. They are our sanity our love, our teacher. They teach us patience, kindness, love and perseverance.
What do they mean to you? |

I have to say that I agree with you on what dogs mean to me. Bridgette means the world to me and I could never imagine what I'd do if I lost her in some way. In my mind it would be no different than loosing a human child. |

| Re: What do they mean... Hi Bearla's Mom...
I couldn't agree with you more. Animals do teach us patience and love. I had a battle with cancer a couple of years ago myself and through it all, the most solid caring for me was done by my dogs. They seemed to know that I was going through a very hard time in my life and they comforted me tremendously. They still do and will continue to be my rock no matter what happens. You're right, they're always caring and they just relieve the stress that builds up in normal life. I can have the worst day at work and when I drive down my driveway and open the door and see those tails wagging, I forget all about my problems and accept the unconditional love my dogs give me. Pretty soon the day's problems seem oh so trivial as I lounge on the couch with my best friends and watch tv for awhile. I am blessed with my two daschunds, three yorkies and my lab-mix (most of which were rescued in one way or another). Oh, and as for the cancer, the surgery took care of it for now and hopefully will not come back. My dogs are the best medicine!

| Re: What do they mean... Yes, little angels with fur. I have some pretty chaotic days and all through out it they are like my little chill pills. I just take a few moments out of my world each hour and pet them or brush them and chill. Like Calogon take me away. They have a very calming effect on me.
Of course I also have my more than a few moments crazy time in the yard I think they are actully learning to play soccer. Pretty cool |

no i havent read it yet, is it any good? do you know who the author is. I have been working on one about bearla for awhile. I have had many dogs in the past and not one has ever affected me the way that she has. Dont get me wrong i have always loved each and every dog i have had and i have come into contact with but she is special somehow. Quote:

Spence (reptilelady) http://www.cutedoggifts.com | hi spence i hear you loud and clear.
And a big thank you to the rest of you who answered this post. I wanted to shar just how much my babies mean too me. I see so many animals that are being abused and it rips my heart out becuase they look up at you as if too say, 'see, im lovable, i will do anything for a cuddle." Im glad the cancer has gone and hopefully it never comes back. I see you like reptiles, hurray! I love them as well. I use to have a chamelion (bearded) and it died of old age last year. I still miss it. I also use to have a salt water tank but they take up too much time. Im glad that you rescue. i hope to get a farm one day and rescue GSD or any other dog that needs a good cuddle.

| Re: What do they mean... Wow!!! What a great post.
Teach us? Well, the one that I'm having the hardest ime learning is patience.
There is a reason that each and every dog comes into our life. Patience is the reason for LeRoy. He's the "smartest" dog only when he want s to be, dumbest dog most of the time. I don't mean that in a bad way. It 's me and my learning of patience.
When I had my horse that I rescued from a terrible situation, I learned everytime I got mad at him for something, it was me that was doing it wrong. He was only doing as I said. Kinda like a computer, they only do what you tell them to do.
Anyway, I think it would definately be patience. |

| Re: What do they mean... Hi again Bearla's Mom,
Yes I do like reptiles. I know this is a forum for mostly dogs (and of course they are my 'heart', but I love all animals and do have several reptiles too! My yorkie, Sidney, loves my 4 foot iguana and they do interact quite alot even though there is the glass wall of the enclosure between them. Glad to hear that someone else shares my feelings for reptiles. Of course, "DOGS RULE"! Take care now.

leroy
i have a pit bull trying to teach me patience (he trys mine every day), as he ages he becomes more and more clingy. Part of that is because he has serious health issues. Bearla in her own way god bless her is also teaching me patience. I need it to deal with all her health issues. It is hard to believe that i bought her from a breeder. She has so many problems but i love her all the more because my heart aches for her.
amitel i have to get that bumper sticker! That is priceless and oh so true |

| Re: What do they mean... That post was so beautiful. It always makes me happy to think about how much Weebles means to me. He's pretty much 9 pounds of pure happiness. His tail is always wagging and it's just impossible for anyone to be down when he's around. A few months ago I had a job that was just horrible, and I'd come home in tears all the time. As soon as I would walk in the door and Weebles saw me, his tail would start to wag and he would get so excited that his whole body was wagging. It just made me feel so great to know that someone was that happy to see me, no matter what happened that day.
I know I'm biased and think he's the best dog in the world, but I've seen him cheer up other people too. He adores kids, and anytime we see one on the street he has a little dance he likes to do for them. He'll walk around after them on his hind legs and they always giggle and want to play with him. |

| Re: What do they mean... YOU have a YORKIE!!!!
gosh, i love the little guys. My hubby only likes German sheps though, lmao we have a pitbull rescue as well but not exactly on the hubbies top 10 list. I love our German shepherd bearla as well. she is absolutely angelic. its funny how each animal affects our life in a much different way. Each one fills its own groove that the others cant, yet each one brings its own uniques quality to the home. |

| Re: What do they mean... Actually he's a Silky. He looks a lot like a Yorkie, but if he's next to a Yorkie he's a little bit bigger (he's almost 10 pounds).
I think big dogs are gorgeous, but I couldn't have one now because I live in an apartment. And I like the little ones better anyway - they're more portable. |

| Re: What do they mean... My dogs mean more than the world to me. They have helped me get over quite a few hurdles on my lifes journey. Chloe was born the same day that my great grandmother passed away. She was a wonderful person and she was always so kind and never had a mean thing to say to us. I truly believe that Chloe is here because she willed it that way. And Sadie came to me a few weeks after me and my friend had a rather nasty fight right before she moved to Nova Scotia. She helped me cope and keep my mind on other things. |
