Re: Do you leave your dog in the car?

My mom also used to leave me in the car while she went shopping. lol

I don't see a difference between my dog sleeping in the car or sleeping at home waiting for me. But then, I also have an SUV with tinted windows and a good alarm system, and he spends the entire time curled up asleep on the back seat.

My life is busy enough that I don't have time to make a ton of different car trips. When I take my dog to the dog park or to agility class, and there's a store on the way that I want to stop at, I have no problem leaving him in the car (weather permitting, of course) for a reasonable amount of time.

Re: Do you leave your dog in the car?

i live 45 minutes from town. vet visits, agility lessons, dog park visits all go hand in hand with Walmart, petco, and kroger shopping. but only when weather permits. i do not leave them in the car if it is above 60 degrees

Same. I'd never leave my dog in a car for more than 30 mins tops.

I do, depending on the weather and never for very long. I don't have a problem with people who do either as long as they have commonsense.

My dogs rarely stay in the van alone. Never too hot or cold and for 15 minutes tops while I run inside to get something quick.

Re: Do you leave your dog in the car?

May I offer a little bit of a different perspective?

I cant tell you how many times my wife has had the bejabbers scared out of her when she was walking through a parking lot with her black Lab guide, and had someones dog that had been left in the car jump up, snarling, growling and furiously barking, through an open window. Or even worse, out of the back of a pickup truck.

Please.....if you are going to leave your dog in the back of your truck or in the car in a public parking lot, restrain it, muzzle it, crate it, train it.....whatever it takes.......but make sure that it cant startle the blind person who is walking across the parking lot with their guide dog, minding their own business.

All guide users would appreciate your thoughfulness in this regard.

Re: Do you leave your dog in the car?

If I can't take her out of the car with me, then I just leave her at home. Sometimes my bf, lexi and me go for an errand and one of us will stay in the car with her while the other runs in the store or puts in gas or whatever.

She freaks out in the car, so I wouldn't want other people to think I'm abusing her.

I'm sorry to hear that. =/ Your wife certainly doesn't have to put up with it.

This is why I asked about kenneling dogs in the car. I also like to think that it's safer than letting the dog have full access to the entire vehicle...

Watch this eps of Victoria Stiwell about the couples Yorkie's got stolen out of the car where the woman (owner) ran into somewhere for matters of minutes

I couldn't find video so here's article
http://www.guardian.co.uk/culture/tv...stvitsmeorthed

I'll tell you a story about my dog. This was when Misty was alive I was sitting in car waiting for my mom running in store I wasn't gonna leave her in the car by herself

Anyways this woman comes up the window asking to pet Misty. I crack the window down far enough that she can pet Misty she kept wanted to pick her up and hold her. I was rolling the window up tad more so she cannot reach very far. I was so afraid she was gonna snitch Misty right in front of my eyes. I held Misty, told the lady thanks

If I wasn't so careful I think that woman would had stole Misty
This is very true that people steal smaller dogs. It's very, VERY common. Not only because of their size, but because in general, little dogs are VERY exspensive. I know from personal experience that a maltese alone range from 1000-5000 dollars for PET quality puppies-NOT show dog prices. I'm too embarrassed to tell yall what I payed for my Gigi. LOL Anyone can steal these dogs, just stick them in their purse and walk away and sell these babies for a pretty penny. I can't tell you how many times I've heard of someone trying to steal a small dog, a friend of mine had hers in his stroller(yes, doggie stroller) and a lady tried to walk off with her maltese when she turned her back for a second. I know someone on a maltese forum where their house was broken into, and they stole her two maltese puppies, and I don't think they stole anything else either. So tragic.

Check this recent one out: http://www.ktla.com/news/landing/ktl...,4403955.story

Here's another: http://www.insidebayarea.com/bay-are...ng/ci_13917800

And another: http://www.peoplepets.com/news/amazi...tolen-dog-back

Hence, I NEVER leave my baby anywhere. We carry her everywhere in a carrier/purse, and as long as the purse is fully enclosed, we are allowed to take her into food places. It also helps that she doesn't shed. LOL

And in the car, Gigi has a carseat.

Re: Do you leave your dog in the car?

sometime i do that and sometime i don't , that depends upon the mood of my dog, because if he is going to misbehave while we go out, we keep him in the car, but the day his behaviour is good, we take him outside.

Re: Do you leave your dog in the car?

My dogs travel with me in my van almost every day. The only exceptions are if it is going to be too hot. Often I carry several dogs. They are always crated, and they are walked every couple of hours.

When I am carrying puppies they are in locked crates which are also locked/attached to crates which hold an adult dog.

My dogs do not take kindly to unwarranted attention to my vehicle, so things stay pretty safe. If the weather is even slightly warm I leave doors and windows open.

Often my dogs stay with me in their crates in the van through an entire work day or dog show. As I said, they are walked frequently.

Re: Do you leave your dog in the car?

Only time when I leave my dog in the car is when I go to the vet. After the vet I usually do a little shopping and that is when I leave my dog in a car for max 20 minutes. And he is always in his kennel. I dont like to restrain Charlie because he sometimes gets car sick, and crate is much more easy to clean then my moms car.
