| Animal Horror Story This weeks Dog Talk the Radio show by Tracie Hotchner, the Author of the Dog Bible, is about animal hoarding which is happening all of the Country. Over 100 dogs and cats and other animals were kept in horrible conditions, by a women in a 1400 Sq foot private house in very wealthy area of Eastern Long Island. The house went on fire due to animal hair clogging the refrigerator motor, and the house burnt to the ground with all the animals locked inside. A few were rescued, but most died locked in their cages. The radio show interviews the rescue workers that were there and they tell the horror of what is was like.
The amazing thing is that there are no laws in most parts of the country to stop this from happening again. Despite the fact that this women was reported to the local animal control volunteers, nothing was ever done about the situation. If you love your pets, or animals in general, you owe it to them to listen to this one hour radio show on your PC, so that this wont happen in your community.. Go to this link and click on Dog Talk #18 dated April 7, 2007 which is in the middle of the page. http://www.dogtalktheradioshow.com/podcast.htm

| Re: Animal Horror Story That is absolutely HORRIBLE! Why hadn't the authorities taken the animals from her before this happened? This could have bben prevented if the powers that be had enforced the law.
I'm in the process of getting together a relief package for a family that beeds and shows Mastiffs. They went out to dinner in and came home to the street to their house shut down due to a house fire. The house was theirs and five adult Mastiffs lost their lives. The only dogs to survive were a mom and four pups. Oh, one of the dogs that died was the #3 Mastiff in the country. |

| Re: Animal Horror Story Interesting segue.
Is there any chance we can ever stay on topic, at least in the general forums?
In our community you are limited to three dogs. People with dozens do get busted and, most often, the animals end up overloading the local shelters.
It's an imperfect solution at best. |

| Re: Animal Horror Story Within city limits in my area, there's a 4 dog limit. No limit on cats. I do know some who squeak around the 4 dog limit by having permenant "fosters" -- ie senior or special needs dogs that are legally owned by a rescue, but don't stand much of a chance of ever being adopted.
In more rural areas, a kennel license must be obtained if you have, I believe, more than 26 dogs living in your property over the course of a year. So those who run rescues or foster a lot for rescues may need a kennel license depending on the number of dogs they house during the year. |

| Re: Animal Horror Story In my city the limit is two dogs and four cats. Outside the city there is no limit on cats and you are allowed four dogs. However cats living outside the city must be spayed/neutered unless they are indoor cats. I figured that law wasn't upheld until a lady who lived on a large farm was given a huge fine and ordered to have her cats fixed within 60 days or they would be taken from her because people were complaining that to many of them were getting hit by cars and ruining other people property.
There is a lady across the street from my aunt and she lives in a two bedroom 1600 sq. ft. house with her husband and 47 cats and three dogs. Her house is very clean outside and she cares for them all but I still think it is wrong for her to have those cats. Unfortunately the county she lives in has no limits on cats or dogs. They have limits on the number of horses or cows you can own per acre but none for cats and dogs. |

| Re: Animal Horror Story currently in Florida there are no state laws limiting, my county nor city have limits other than the shelters will not allow to adopt from them if you 5 animals already - scarey esp. when last week a woman was "Baker Acted", her mother (also in the house) was place in nursing care and over 100 cats & dogs were taken from the home - because of the smell and conditions |

| Re: Animal Horror Story There is a 3 dog limit around here. and a 3 cat restriction. Problem is though that some have much more but ot many people report it because 'they dont want to get involved. Others keep the animals in barns and cages on the outskirts of town |
