My puppy just gobbled "litter box treats" -- nassy!

What to do about this? I didn't catch him in time & if I see Linus going to the laundry room, I give a stern "ah-ahh!!" that will make him turn around.

He snuck one in tonight, would NOT drop on command even with a favorite treat of CHICKEN under his nose (chicken is to Linus what turkey is to the Bumpass' smelly hounds).

What does anyone do for this completely nassy little side interest?

is this a litter box for your dog or do you also have cats in the house?

Believe it or not if it's your cats litter box it may be a teritorial thing your dog is doing or your dog just might like the brand of litter you are using. Try using some other brand.

Sorry, I forgot to mention that --- the CAT litterbox! Linus is about 3 months; he wants to play with my cat, Wednesday, who absolutely detests him. I am working on a stern "sit" or "down" when he wants to chase her.

Good luck with that one. You probably won't see a whole lot of sit or down when there's a cat in the room and Linus is still a puppy. Especially, if he see's that the cat doesn't have to do sit or down. But he'll get it eventually, don't get discouraged!

Any pics of the two of them together?

I'll try to get one of all my animals -- older adoptee, Puzzle, Wednesday, and puppy Linus (who was abandoned in our driveway at about 5-6 weeks). I don't know about getting Wednesday & Linus in the same picture unless my daughter's digital camera is really good at catching chase photos in motion -- like Wile E. Coyote & Roadrunner.....

LOL. The imagery of that is almost enough to justify not having a picture.

Your contributions to taking pets in is very kind. I'm sure they let you know how much they appreciate that on a daily basis.

I think litterbox treats are a favorite treat for many dogs. Natalie will stick her head in there any chance she gets. I used to know when she got in there because she would have cat litter on her nose.

To prevent her from getting to them I bought hooded litter boxes and placed them facing the wall. I have four boxes side by side and there is not enough space for her to get into them anymore. When I had a different set up and fewer boxes I had them facing the wall and had chairs on each side so she couldn't get to them.

You could also set up a baby gate to block off that room if possible. The cats shouldn't have a problem jumping it but the dogs won't be able to.

My former sheltie loved to snack on kitty truffles as well. If you litter box is covered there is a simple answer to your problem. Put the cat box under a table thats on a wall or just put the box close to a wall and turn the entrance around toward the wall leaving about 3-4 inches between the box and the wall for the cats to enter. The dog can't get into the box without moving it (which you can hear) and the cats have room enough to get in the box to do their business.

It is a hooded one -- from what I've caught, Linus pokes his head in & quickly searches for a nearby "sample" of -- what was it? Kitty truffle -- ugh! I'll try the turning towards the wall thing. As kitty Wednesday is slim, slim she won't have a problem getting in from a more narrow opening (it's in the small laundry room, I'll try to make it a most inconvenient space). Linus, however, growing bigger, especially as he receives lots of food (cheese, chicken, Pupcorn) for training treats, will be thoroughly perplexed and downright miffed.

I have cats in the house along with six dogs (two of them love cat poop). I made a litter box hide away for the litter box. I took a rubbermaid container and cut a small hole on one side and put the litter box inside the container and closed the lid. The dogs can't get to the litter. If you have small dogs you can put the litter box a higher level like a small table so the dogs can't get to it but the cats can.
