Maybe you've been visiting the wrong forums. Moderators on the good forums are there to help new users navigate the system and get familiar with the features.
Ridding the board of habitually argumentative posters is just a bonus. |

Why do you think it is that mods/admins get special titles and diffrent colored names? And its the same way on most msg boards ive seen.
Ya know why? cause it makes people feel good about themselves. As a mod or admin here, people have more power then they do in their real life, in which they are probably in charge of nothing, so being a mod/admin here fills that void.
"oh look at me! im a mod! i have power over you! I can edit-delete your posts! - oh gee i have so much power!!!"
I think lord of the rings said it best: "And 9 rings were gifted to the race of men, who above all else desire power"
Oh that is so true. power is EVERYTHING to so many people.
So about this topic - oh boy! new mods! Ya thats great. I know exactly why they want to be one. | That's funny... we don't get special names OR special colors. What's up with that Dave? lmao... j/k
And actually, the new mods were INVITED, they did not apply, and had no idea they were to be mods until we invited them after seeing how mature and responsible they are on the forum.
No reason to be jealous. >9.9< |

Actually, Cheetah, it was all part of my evil plot from the moment I registered here. |

| Re: New Moderators!!! There is a notion that moderating a forum is all about censorship and rules. Somebody already mentioned Freedom of Speech - as if that is immediately threatened by the addition of two new moderators.
Here's what this moderator did today that I could not have done as a non-moderator. I deleted a rather nasty spam post at 5:30 this morning. I imagine hardly anybody saw it, and that's the way it should be. Before I became a moderator, it seemed like I was reporting a spam post every time I logged in. I was feeling like a pest.
Then, early this evening, I moved an important post about a health concern to a new thread on the dog health forum and gave it a descriptive title, in hopes that someone who is familiar with the condition will respond. The post was buried in the middle of this thread, which is no place for anything serious.
Otherwise, I'm doing exactly what I did as a civilian - telling long, pointless stories and dispensing dubious advice to my fellow dog lovers.
I do need to point out that, without an administrator, there would be no dogforums.com. This board didn't just spontaneously erupt on the Internet. A board like this takes tremendous time and effort to develop and maintain and the administrator normally receives very little thanks for it.

I saw a disturbing one the other day and within literally seconds of it being posted, and me starting to read it...poof..it disappeared.
I think it's great there are two more mods to help get rid of spam and help new members find their way around. It's not anything to do with power...I have been a mod on several forums, and it's all about helping people and keeping the forum clean. Quote:

Is it you that's adding the little descriptions to people's thread titles? I absolutely LOVE it! I keep noticing that thread names will change randomely and it makes it SO much easier to know what the thread is really about. |

| Re: New Moderators!!! Well, let me see, I banned a disruptive flamer after warning him repeatedly to stop his behavior, moved a couple posts that were in the wrong forum, deleted posts by said flamer so people didn't have to be offended by him. But normally, moderating isn't that exciting. It's usually just being sure that posts get answered, and are in the correct forum and patrolling for spam. |

Boy, talk about a power trip!
I have to go to bed now. All this power-welding has left me exhausted.
Be safe, and look both ways before you cross the street. |

I also say that RON E is going to loose it first and bounce off the cyber walls and axe someone as well. (only kidding) They could not have picked better people to do the job. Im proud of you both. (wiping a proud mama tear away), if ron gave a island to become moderator, what did you give Carla, lmao
all joking aside, congrats. |
