Possibility of adding to my family

I currently have a three year old female siberian husky that we keep as an outside dog. She has adequate shelter and a nice large dog run.

I was approached yesterday by a co-worker who has a sister-in-law who is moving and has a 3 yr. old husky that she was going to give to the pound.

I told my co-worker to tell her to wait a few days and I might be interested in taking the dog myself.

Here's my question - What problems or situations might I occur with introducing this dog into my dog's world?

Is there anything I should look for as far as compatibility?

They both are females - mine is fixed but the other dog is not and already has had a litter. Is this a issue?

Any help, guidance, suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I would like to see this dog get a good home but I don't want to affect my dog's life unless it is for the better. I have read that huskies enjoy company so I thought this might be a good thing for both dogs involved. It would give them both a play partner!

You are facing two issues:

1. You are adopting a same sex dog.

2. You are adopting a dog that isn't fixed.

It is more likely that two females will not get along, rather than having a male and a female not get along. The fact that she isn't fixed will make it even worse.

If you do decide to adopt, get her fixed right away.

As far as compatibility, you want to get a dog that has the same energy level as your dog, or less. You don't want to bring in a higher energy dog than the one you currently own.

I would have them meet in neutral territory so you can assess them before you decide to adopt.

My two cents.
