Moving – Dog Stress

My Sheppard mix is a little bit of a nervous nelly since I rescued her last June. I have spent a considerable amount of time educating myself and working with her, and the progress has been stellar.

I will be moving and I am concerned about the stress it may have on her. It is a local move, and she will be staying at a friend’s house for the day during the move. My friend suggested that instead of me picking her up at her house, she would take my baby girl to my new home – thinking that her excitement to see me would dilute any initial “new” home stress. I thought that was a good idea, and I am looking for any other suggestions.

Re: Moving – Dog Stress

i have always kept my dogs w/ me when i moved, even if that meant making more trips back and forth, and having them see the items go from their familiar place to the new place....i don't know if it has made much difference but the one time i moved w/out doing this my dog seemed more stressed, and that was a mutt that i had....now i have Border Collies and they really do not like change (even moving the furniture will stress out most BC's)......

Re: Moving – Dog Stress

Hello and good morning to everybody. I take my dogs to the park and the car ride alone gets them queezy. There is this stuff out there Nutro Calcium. It's kind of like a doggy vicodine. It will really calm your dog down so he is less nervous. I haven't used it for a while but I am sure that is what it's called.
