Puppy plays roughly with older dog.

My 3 month old puppy, Linus, wants to play with Puzzle, my much older dog (we're guessing around 10, he adopted us a couple of years ago). You know -- lunging, biting, pulling, hurtling himself on him, all the ways he might play with another puppy. Puzzle doesn't enjoy the play, is a very patient lab/retriver mix, and works at keeping him away, pinning him down with a big paw, or just looking helpless. I separate them often because I feel this is punishing to Puzzle.

Has anyone else had this experience with a puppy & a much older dog? I'm hoping Linus will outgrow some of this over-exuberance with age. Then, he wants to play with me as he does Puzzle -- lunging, nipping, and biting (so I have to walk away or redirect to try for some more calming & appropriate play).

Thanks!

My dog Eevee is 6 years old, and when I first got Shippo, he jumped all over her, and tried to hump her and bite her in the face... it took a couple days of warning growls, but she finally disciplined him herself, by scruffing him with her mouth and/or snapping at his muzzle and barking, which resulted in his surprised yelps... he quit being so harsh toward her after that. I figured if he crossed the line, she'd let him know right away lol... but this is Eevee and she's a very patient dog... I don't know your dog or how patient he is with unruly puppies.
