| Rescue I did it - I helped, again!! Wow - & long distance too.
The day may rate among my top days! I read a post in my favorite chatroom of a bigger dog in trouble. Opps, here I go, got to help, somehow.
Seems the wife to the owner of the dog, had purchased a "purse-puppy", even tho her husband had a larger dog at home already. Several people had warned her to take care when these two dogs were in the same room because of the extreme difference in sizes.
Well, the worst happened. Earlier this week (Tuesday?) she ordered the bigger dog off the couch. As he landed, he accidently stepped on the smaller dog. Death, to my understanding, was almost instant.
This lady, beside herself, had ordered the larger dog be put to sleep. She had even scheduled the appoitment for this. She gave her husband till the evening before the vet's appointment (wednesday night) to find the dog another home. No one the man knew, not family or friends, could take the endangered animal. All local shelters were full and unable to him. Time was quickly drawing short!
I suggested to the lady, sister-in-law to the man owning the dog, that they contact a rescue service, even provided a few telephone numbers for her. (They live in Canada, I live in the southern US.) After 2 calls, the arrangements were made. Someone came and took this mis-judged furbaby to a safe and loving foster home till a permanent home is found.
Please people, think about the home you are providing to something that is solely dependant on you for their care. Also, look to the shelters and rescue services for a loving companion; one who will truely love you in return! |

What an idiot.... |

| Re: Rescue oh the lady causing the "fuss" does not go into that chat room - but I have talked to the lady that was seeking help, her hubby, his brother, the brothers' Mom - they all tell me I a place to stay if I go visit - seems I may be a minor hero with them
follow up - rescue group arrived with police, the lady was issued several citations and must appear in court for animal cruelty - she had locked the dog on a balcony in a driving snow with no shelter, blanket or even food & water - think someone should have done the same to her |

| Re: Rescue I don't know about them, but if that were my wife, I wouldn't just let her sign up for an appointment to kill my dog, and just accept it. |

| Re: Rescue You know people like that are the ones who need to be put to sleep. My younger brother had a girlfriend a while ago and she got a little jack russel puppy. Well one day her dad was in the kitchen and he went to step backwards and stepped right on the puppy and it died pretty well on the spot. This puppy apparently was always standing right next to the people or under their feet and was in danger of this constantly and my brothers girlfriend, the owner of the pup, wouldn't do anything about it. But she of course was so angry and totally convinced her dad did it on purpose she ran away and refused to return home until he appologized for doing something he didn't even mean to do. And you want to know the kicker? As soon as she returned hom she went out and bought a shih tzu puppy. Luckily he is still alive and has yet to be stepped on. |

| Re: Rescue The woman sounds like an idiot! I'm glad you were able to help the poor dog! I've had dogs of all sizes and NEVER had a dog step on and kill a smaller dog. Yes the two should have been separated until the larger dog got used to having a small dog in the house but in short, to odr a dogs death because of a freak accident is just ..... well I'll stop her before I say something I'll regret. |
