| Ten Breeds Forever In front of me right now I have a breed guide. The cover says that it lists over 400 breeds. Granted, many are rare, at least in this country. Did you know that many European countires have there own breed of pointer?
We all know about German and English pointers, but Portugal, France, and several other counties have their version of it. The funny thing is that they are very similar dogs. I guess it is a national pride or ego thing to have your own dog.
There are also many dog breeds that are extinct. Google "extinct dog breeds," you'll be amazed at the dogs that are no longer around. There are a few breeds now that are so rare that they may be gone soon. This made me think about breeds that I hope never go extinct. Even though they might be dogs I will never own, I like to see them around. So I have come up with a list of ten dog breeds that I hope remain around forever, or as long as I am on this planet.
Here are my ten.
1. Standard Poodle
2. Siberian Husky
3. Newfoundland
4. Golden Retriever
5. Beagle
6. King Charles Spaniel
7. Border Collie
8. Chihuahua
9. Bloodhound
10.Jack Russell Terrier
I realize that this is an eclectic list to say the least. But these are ten dogs that I really like. Some are for their personalities, some for their looks, some for their purpose, or a combination of the three. I hope I will always see these breeds around.
So, what are the ten breeds you hope never go away? |

| Re: Ten Breeds Forever *GSD (for the service that they do like police dogs, guide dogs, guardians, etc.)
*Labradors (also for the service they do and for being a great all around "family" dog)
*Bloodhound (Also for the service they do)
*Shih Tzu (my favorite breed)
*Chihuahua (a lot of little old ladies and others need companionship in a little dog. I haven't found any little dog that makes you feel as loved as the Chihuahua)
*Poodle (just a "classic",versatile dog and good for those people that have allergies)
*Siberian Huskies (a lot of people have sleds that need pulling)
*Collie (another classic dog, also great for farm work and as family dogs)
*Westie (for those that like terriers)
*Cocker Spaniel (another "staple" breed IMO)
My list includes at least one dog from all 7 breed groups.

| Re: Ten Breeds Forever I don't know about breeds I never want to see go but I certainly have my list of "breeds to own in my lifetime" which include
Bullmastiff
English mastiff
Dogue de bordeau (seeing a common theme here )
Saint bernard
Shar pei
german shepherd
irish wolfhound
German short hair pointer
black and tan coonhound
tibetian mastiff
american bulldog or alapaha blue blood bulldog
italian greyhound
Leonberger
(I know that's more than 10 but try picking just 10 out of over 650 breeds recognised!)

| Re: Ten Breeds Forever Rottweiler (of course) Because I think it is the best possible family dog and it is a great all around working dog. Also used by military and police. Doberman Pinscher For the same reason. Golden Retriever Though not the breed for me, I think a well bred Golden makes a wonderful family companion and also a nice sporting dog. Shih Tzu I think this breed makes an ideal companion for elderly people. English Springer Spaniel I think they are a nice medium size family/sporting dog.
Happy little workers. Bull Mastiff This is a breed that I have always enjoyed. They make wonderful family companions and estate guardians. German Shorthaired Pointer Another medium size family/sporting breed I have always enjoyed. Giant Schnauzer A great breed for those with allergies. Also an excellent companion/working dog. Standard Poodle Another easy on allergies breed. Great working/sport dogs. (if only they didn't have such scary feet)
Jack Russel Terrier Excellent rodent removal/family/sporting dogs. Nice smaller size dog for a relatively active lifestyle.
This actually proved more difficult for me then I would have thought. There are many breeds I like though I would probably only own the first 2 on my list. I tried to pick enough breeds that could make most people happy based on need.
I also tried to pick dogs that could have a purpose other then just pet.
I probably COULD live with any of these though I would prefer not to live with a few of them. |

| Re: Ten Breeds Forever Hmm..let's see:
1. German Shepherd, because of their wonderful work as police and service dogs.
2. American Pit Bull Terrier, also because they (despite what others may say) make fantastic service dogs.
3. Papillons, they make wonderful companion dogs, and would be excellent for the elderly..and for active people who want a small dog..the athletes of the toy breeds.
4. Chinese Shar-Pei, just personal preference.. =]
5. Labrador retrievers, excellent service dogs and great family pets. (with my own preference for the 'chocolate' ones..)
6. Great Danes, for being the gentle giants and excellent protectors..(and by that I mean, looks-wise. I'd never break into a Great Dane's house..whether I knew he was friendly or not! LOL)
7. Saint Bernard, for their search and rescue work! and because they're so darn cute!
8. Chinese Crested Hairless, because I needed to throw in another toy breed, and this one is hypoallergenic. =]
9. Bloodhound, because, supposing something happens and we are suddenly faced with hunting for our own food again..I sure would like to have a hound dog around!
10. Pug, another toy breed that can be a great companion for people with a less active lifestyle..sweet, and one of the best toy breeds for family life, esp families with small children. |
