Crazy thing happened and I need advice on what to do

I have a pure German Shepherd imported from Germany and he is sort of a kid and has some behavioral issues well today just exceeded everything that happened. He jumped over our fence and attacked a smaller dog that someone was walking. He literally put the dog in his mouth and held the dog there for awhile and (well we didn't see this part) started shaking him. The dog is still alive but has bite marks in his stomach and from what we know now he might be paralyzed from the waist down or something like that. What should we do? Take him into some training or something cause he did the same thing a couple days ago only didn't thrash the dog at all or even bite him...just held him there until we came outside and told him to stop. He usually isn't like this and we can leave him roaming the backyard unattended but these past few days its been hell. Is it him just wanting to play or what?

Well, obviously you can't leave him in the back yard unattended. Sounds like your dog has some serious issues and you better get them under control immediately, or they will take the dog away from you as a dangerous animal. In that case, they will probably euthanize the dog....

I have a shepherd and that is not typical behavior. He is very well behaved and friendly with people and other dogs. I would definately say that he needs to secured better in the back yard and I would get him some training from a professional. Play or fight that sort of behavior is unacceptable.

Yeah we have a 4 year old GS and she's perfectly behaved but Max (the one who bit the dog) is about 1 and bigger than her...and he is sorta obnoxious...like he will chew anything we put onto the table (he once tore apart our Christmas tree we left outside) and he is just crazy...makes me think he is out of control and we do need to get him trained...

I'll try to K.I.S.S.

*IF* they don't euthanize your dog, I suggest you IMMEDIATELY find a certified trainer/behaviourist, not neccessarily a purely positive trainer, but one at least with mostly positive methods and sign your dog up.

Keep him ON LEASH at all times to avoid more lawsuits. Even when he goes out in your fenced back yard, yes even then.

While your waiting the few days before your first class, (should be within a week, obviously this is a serious situation) research different training ideas and methods, like NILIF, some clicker websites. (You don't have to have a clicker to understand marking and rewarding behaviour methods).

Good luck and BE SAFE!

Ya think???

I'm sorry to be such a cynic, but I suspect a troll here.

It is inconceivable to me that someone would go to the expense and trouble to import a dog from Germany and then not protect that investment by getting some professional training.

I'd much rather believe that someone is playing stupid, but mostly harmless, games with a bunch of dog-owners on a forum than playing stupid, and potentially deadly, games with their dog and any dog that has the misfortune to walk past the yard.

Re: Crazy thing happened and I need advice on what to do

First of all...no I'm not trolling at all. Second, we didn't pay anything for him as we got him from people who could no longer take care of him anymore. The sherrif came today while my dad was at home and he inspected the fence and even questioned how he could jump over it but anyways seems that Max hadn't had his rabies shots but every other shot and needs to get one. Meanwhile we will have to pay vet bills and we have a court date but we will get a pro trainer for him ASAP. It didn't seem to drastic to get a trainer when we got him for the worst thing he would do is stand in front of me while I was walking and seemed like he wanted to play but I guess that time is over until we train him and get him updated on his shots. Yeah this does sound sort of unbelievable but I'm not joking...(just informing you guys on the current situation). Here is a sort of old (not really) picture of him and how he compares to the fence but he has grown. http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r41/Djberec/Max2.jpg

I vote for TROLL too. Mostly harmless, but still aggravating. See it all too often on another forum.

God Bless All......Stan
