| Thanksgiving Cookies Stop me if you've heard this one before. Seriously, I might have told this story here, but I'm old.
When we still had our big lab, Dogzilla, my wife made some big, turkey-shaped cutout cookies to send to school with my daughter. Her birthday is very close to Thanksgiving.
She had six dozen of those cookies cooling on the kitchen table when she ran to the store to pick up a few things. When she returned, the tablecloth was on the floor and there was no sign of the cookies - not even a crumb. The only good thing was she had not yet frosted them.
She called me at work to tell me that MY dog had eaten 72 rather large cutout cookies. I thought this must surely be a fatal overdose so I said, "Is he dead?" She said, "No, but he will be when I catch him."
When I came home that evening, he met me at the door and let me know he was hungry and ready for his supper.
This was a dog who so rarely did anything wrong that, when he did, it made a lasting impression.
The lasting impression arrived about 24 hours later when those cookies finally caught up with him. |
