HELP! Ugly Yellow Spots

Spring has sprung and pur lawn is the only lawn in the neighborhood that isn't turning green!
Any tips for getting rid of the already existing spots? How about suggestions for keeping new spots from showing up this spring?
I hate to have to pay the hefty fee to our association because of our damaged lawn!

I think once the grass is dead, it's dead. Not much will make it green again...at least in New Jersey.
I used to rake up the spot until most of the dead stuff was gone, then sprinkle grass seed and start over.
Big dogs can really destroy lawns with all that urine. Can you train your dog to just use one spot somewhere?

Re: HELP! Ugly Yellow Spots

I have bermuda sod in my yard, and the pee spots don't stay brown on it forever. There are always some, but they clear up/green back up, and are replaced by new ones. I take my dogs out in the back yard to a specific spot each time, and I don't really care how it looks in that particular area.

My dogs are also trained to a specific spot in the back yard, in fact way out in the pasture. However, if your dogs make a mistake, like in the front yard where it is seen by those who enforce the rules, then pour lots of water on the potty spot to neutralize the urine. For existing spots I think all you can do is rake up and re-seed.

Re: HELP! Ugly Yellow Spots

I hear ya, my back yard looks terrible! haha I found last year during the summer, the only way to prevent the yellowing grass was to water down the spots right after the dogs "go". PJ is no biggie, he usually lifts his leg up on the fence, so not much hits the grass, and if it does, its on the edges of the yard. But Tysa, wow, she really does a number on it. It's a pain having to go out and water the grass down after she goes, but it really does help the grass.

Re: HELP! Ugly Yellow Spots

This may sound weird, but how do you train a 8 month old puppy to go in just one place?
This is our first dog as a married couple. We both grew up in families with dogs but we always just let them out in the fenced in backyard to their business and they roamed free.

Is it too late to train Abby to go in one spot? Also, she whines and cries to go out about 3 or four times in the evening when we are home. She is in her crate from 8-3, if my husband can get home at 11to let her out he will but it is not always possible. On the weekends she is asking to go out quite a bit more. Should we be limiting the amount of times we take her out?
