| People who don't care a bout dogs I use to be one of these people years n years ago back before I ever had dogs. I know of many people that care about dogs as much as they care a bout a random insect. For some reason a cute little maltese just never did anything for me and I know plenty of good people that just didn't care for dogs in general. Not like they're bad people but a dog is just not on their top 100 list of things to care or think a bout.
Like I use to goto peoples houses or see other dogs and I never thought "Oh thats cute" I just thought "Oh annoying dog I hope this dog doesn't start jumping up at me". But now after being a dog owner for so many years I can't believe how much I use to ignore dogs. I just use to see them as an annoyance.
Makes me wonder I hope my dogs don't ever get lost or anything, wouldn't want them being out there in a world where most people don't care and just see dogs an object nothing more.
I hardly see in betweens , a person either really likes dogs or really can't stand them. I see it with my own dogs, people are either "OH MY GOD HOW CUTE" or they're just like "does it jump up at people i dont want to its fur on me" |

| Re: People who don't care a bout dogs I have met so many people throughout my life who either hated dogs or were just indifferent to them, I never understood why this is. I myself have always been drawn to dogs, If I happen to pass someone walking their dog I always have to stop and ask if I can pet the dog, Not having a dog for the past 10 years I felt a huge void, an empty feeling like their was something major in my life missing. I just do not understand how people can even exist without a affinity to dogs like many of us do. Seems so unnatural, but then again not all of us can be the same I guess. Im not a fan of reptilian pets, Im sure all the reptile people probably think I am crazy, I think its the same |

Ha!
However, just because I'm not crazy about kids and don't want any of my own doesn't mean that I wouldn't help a child who needed it. I think the same probably goes for most people.
Plus, pets are a multi-billion dollar industry in this country (food, vet care, toys, etc.) People here are crazy about pets and so I have a feeling that the ones who care outnumber the ones who don't.
I worry about my dogs being stolen or getting out and someone deciding to keep them more than I do about someone just not caring enough to help them.
But I really appreciate you sharing your perspective on the "other side." I have always been crazy about animals. So it's very odd to me that there are people who really aren't. But then, I'm sure it's odd to a lot of people that I am not really crazy about kids. Ha!
So what made you change your ideas about dogs? How did you end up getting your first dog if you weren't that interested in them to begin with? |

| Re: People who don't care a bout dogs I mostly like and care about my dog.. but not other people's dogs. I would not abuse or neglect a found dog.. I like animals. I just like mine best! Quote:

| Re: People who don't care a bout dogs I think it's really important not to hold it against people when they don't like dogs. We can't assume everybody's the same, and if there's one thing that annoys me more than people mean to animals, it's pet owners who don't respect the wishes of non-pet owners. Just because I love getting tackled by a 100 pound Newfoundland doesn't mean everybody else does, and it's up to all dog owners to protect the reputations of our animals. As any bully owner can tell you, all it takes is one idiot to ruin things for the rest of us. |

| Re: People who don't care a bout dogs Completely agree with you, George. I am, and always have been, hyper vigilant about making sure that my pets don't annoy people.
For instance, my mother-in-law is really not into animals. She's a nice person. Just doesn't care for animals. So whenever they come visit, I try to make sure that the pets give her space and aren't in her face. (Of course, the cats are like...hey! you act like you don't like me! Perfect! Let me rub all over you!)
But the last time they visited, she actually gave a quick pet to Mayzie and later in the visit, she commented about how well-behaved they are. That was HUGE! I figure even if someone doesn't love animals, I should at least make sure they're comfortable being around mine. |

| Re: People who don't care a bout dogs A lot of people see dogs as an annoyance because most of the dogs they run into that stick in their memory are annoying untrained dogs their owners don't teach manners to.
I'm 180 from that, I have kept all kinds of animals, reptiles included, rescued wild ones even as a kid like baby birds. I put spiders outside when I find them in the house and stop to help turtles across the road.. |

| Re: People who don't care a bout dogs I will agree that most people who do not like animals have had no experience or a bad experience (sometimes more than once).
Fido who comes barreling over to first crotch sniff and then jump on every new person he meets is not a "friendly" dog.. he is RUDE. Quote:

| Re: People who don't care a bout dogs Before years ago when I didn't really like dogs all my experiences with small dogs a such as maltese other small breeds was just bad. Bad meaning I'd goto someones house and their little maltese or shitzu mixes would come bolting at the door yapping, I find that to be extremely annoying and back then I'd think "How the hell can people even want these dogs in their homes" But now I do know it's the owners that made them like that not the dog.
I didn't know how dogs were but all I knew is that some dogs were either spasticly excited running nipping everything and others were just calm and stuff while others were just plain aggressive. All my experiences with dogs before having one wasn't enjoyable tbh mainly because I didn't know anything about dogs or how they acted with and I guess me being a new person around them they weren't acting as they do normally. Until I started actually looking after my aunties dog as a favour, which is a dog I ended up keeping, I never really liked dogs.
Just from looking after my aunties dog (she was a maltese) I went from looking at dogs and feeling about dogs a lot differently, like the dog went from being something that I felt was an annoyance, even tho she wasnt at all , she was the most calm dog I've ever seen, never barked, never complained, was easy to train, never bite or nipped, didn't run up at people, she was the nicest dog. But yeah I went from looking at them in a totally different way from that experience. All my previous experience with dogs was seeing them for a few seconds or a minute and just seeing their excited side, which I think over the years made me think "dogs annoy me". |
