HELP! My dog's puppies may die...

Hi, my dog has been pregnant recently. She is a outside dog and I live in Florida. During the nights she will sometimes go underneath my home to stay warm. We recently cut off her way of getting in because she was getting close to having her puppies. She managed to break through and we didn't see her for about a whole day, she didn't eat any of her food or anything, she finally came out and was acting very hyper and in a rush, she ate very fast, and now she goes underneath the house and stays for long periods at a time. Judging by her size I'm pretty sure it's safe to say she had her puppies. It's been about 3 days and I doubt that her puppies have survived underneath there, what do you guys think? We're considering paying someone to go underneath there and find the puppies, do you guys think there is a chance they are still alive? Please give replies asap, time is of the essence.

Re: HELP! My dog's puppies may die...

Are you for real

Why wasn't the dog inside the house or some where clean and warm for her and her puppies?

What is the reason you are not going under the house?

You know if you hire someone do go under there that she MIGHT bite them if she doesn't know them. Protecting her puppies.

The puppies might be alive still. The bitch will know what to do with the puppies, because they are her own. Mothers natural instinct will kick in, and the puppies might be fine.

Re: HELP! My dog's puppies may die...

I believe it is quite probable the puppies are ok. On a farm that is the way all puppies and kittens were born when I was young. I would get under there and bring them out though. As the previous ost states mothers instinct is age old and works quite well.

I can't believe you would cut your pregnant dog from coming into your house because she was going to have her puppies and then I can't believe you would let her not be spayed and be roaming so she could get pregnant. So obviously this poor dog has had no veterinary care so you should call the ASPCA right away and let them take your dog and her pups (if they are alive) to a safe place. I don't mean to sound harsh but really, be realistic here.

Re: HELP! My dog's puppies may die...

We weren't sure when she was going to have the puppies, we just knew soon, she's a outside dog and she sheads and has fleas and what not, plus she doesn't like the inside of the house because she has alot of fur on her, she's a fuzzy dog, and we can't keep the house at a cool climate for her to be cool and we have to be freezing, however we did make her a little place to have them at on the porch. There's no way I'd climb underneath my house to get the puppies when I could hire someone...But I hope they are ok, thanks for all the replies!

If the dog has fleas, then get flea medication. Comb the dog, and then leave it inside, for awhile. Or do you not care if its an outside dog?

She didn't cut her off from getting inside, she cut her off from getting under the house!! Guys, not everyone is a dog expert. All you are doing is making her feel even worse than she does already. She did TRY to cut her off from going under there, it's not her fualt!!

Hire the person to get them out, build a proper whelping box in your house and raise those puppies properly. When all done have the bitch spayed. then research dog ownership.

She said it was "her dog". The poor dog wants to get under the house to keep warm, so she blocked that access, so now the dog is cold, and ready to give birth to puppies.

Hi Captbob. I think she is from Florida so it may not be cold.

I think this person may be alright just need to learn a bit about dogs. They may not have ever learned what we call empathy and the fact that it applies to all living creatures. I hope that makes sense what I wrote.

I feel bad because part of the reason she does not let it in the house is because the dog has fleas. Maybe she dose not understand that a dog living with fleas all over it feels just as bad as it would on her. Maybe she does not know about frontline or the other great products she can get to help that problem.

To the original poster please post back and let us know what is going on ok?

I didn't see where she said that the dog had fleas. I did see where she has done nothing to help the dog about to have pups. I work in a shelter and see these kind of horror stories all the time, so I don't have alot of tolerance for people that mistreat animals. So now the mother of the pups and the puppies lives are probably all in jeopardy.

Re: HELP! My dog's puppies may die...

She posted the same post in several different areas on this forum I do not Know if they combined all of them or not.

Anyway, this story makes me sad. I just hope the OP calls the ASPC and gets help and maybe from reading some helpful info on this forum will either properly care for the dog of find her a new home.
