| Re: HELP! My dog's puppies may die... This is disgusting. If you can't take the responsibility to get your animal spayed, away from other dogs when she's in heat, and can't keep her clean and healthy enough to be allowed in the house when she's about to burst with puppies, you should be arrested for animal abuse. That dog and all of her puppies are your responsibility, and honestly the fact that you're too good to climb under your own house to pull out puppies that you are afraid could be dieing is a very sad commentary on our society. If you can afford to have someone crawl under your house, you can afford to have your dog spayed and properly taken care of. Also, I've never met a dog in my life that didn't WANT to go inside and be with his owners, unless you really are that horrible. I hope your dogs puppies are safe and healthy, and I hope they take those dogs away from you. |

| Re: HELP! My dog's puppies may die... Why do you have to ask if you should try to get them? I can't believe you waited this long. Please...either yourself or someone go down there and get those puppies. I'm sure they are still alive. Their mother knows how to take care of them but they need to be in a better place then underneath the house. Call someone now to get them!!!!! |

| Re: HELP! My dog's puppies may die... A little off topic but a guy here in Long Island, NY took a neighbors cat to the ASPCA told them it was his and didn't want it anymore and they euthanized it. Well, somehow it was revealed and it was all over the news and the guy is doing time--poetic justice! |

| Re: HELP! My dog's puppies may die... I recently heard a story about a guy who didn't like his neighbours dog barking so much so one day he kidnapped the dog and brought it to a nearby vet and said the dog had behaviour problems and was attacking people and barking incessantly and he wanted it euthanized because he couldn't adopt it to anyone esle. Well unfortunately for him the vet knew this dog because it was a patient of his so he checked the microchip on the dog to be 100% sure while the guy was signing papers and called the cops. The guy was arrested and served a few months of jail time and had to pay a HUGE fine. He was charged with breaking and entering, possession of stolen property and dognapping. The owners of the dog ended up suing him as well.....serves him right. |

| Re: HELP! My dog's puppies may die... Here is a true story, just in Long Island Newday, a woman from my town about six years ago went to Costco and left her dachshund in the car. Someone broke into the car and stole her dog. Six years later someone in the Bronx turned in the dog to an ASPCA. The dog had been microchipped and now, six years later, the woman got her dog back. It was in the newspaper, pretty cool. |

They don't belong outside 24/7. A pregnant dog should not be living outside, much less under a house, especially in FL, and other areas of the country with weather extremes. There are ordinaces prohibiting leaving dogs outside 24/7, at least in some Counties in FL. It's considered abuse and neglect, and owners can be arrested and/or fined. The dog has fleas because it lives outside, and the owner doesn't provide the dog with flea protection, or even seem to be aware this exists. Let's hope the poster is just a trol. |

in answer to your ? ....YES!!!...dogs are meant to be w/ their pack and that means it's people.....if a Dane (or other of that size) is too large for your living space, get something smaller.....there are plenty of dogs out there that would fit the same criteria that a Dane (or other large breeds) in alot of waysand are smaller.....IMO, no dog should be a permanant outside dog (and yes, i do realize that the Nordic breeds usually prefer the outdoors, but i still think they should be in the house as much as possible) |

| Re: HELP! My dog's puppies may die... Agreed. I am against people having outside only dogs. All dogs need their share of outdoor time, more or less depending on the breed, but I believe they need to live primarily indoors with people. I think this results in happier dogs with better temperments. |

| Re: HELP! My dog's puppies may die... I agree. Ugh the end of this thread reminded me of some of the awful things I heard at Petsmart this weekend! I volunteer with a shelter in town and we had some puppies and a cat for adoption at Petsmart this weekend. One family who was looking at a chow pup we had were interested before they even pet the dog...which was weird to begin with. Then they kept asking how big the dog would get...they said if he was too big he would be an outside dog. Then they went on to say they had a Chihuahua already that was not spayed. We told them we don't adopt out dogs unless their other pet is spayed/neutered and they told us that wasn't okay with them as they wanted her to have puppies. Ugh! We were hoping to get their names and report them, but didn't get to. They live on the reservation too which is were we pick up 20-30 dumped puppies EVERY WEEK! It was heartbreaking! But if they come back to the shelter to look at puppies we're getting their names because you aren't allowed to breed dogs on the reservation because it is sickeningly overpopulated with dogs. |

| Re: HELP! My dog's puppies may die... I dont agree with no outside only dogs. I have 2 great pyrs there job is to protect my livestock they can not do that from inside the house . There job is 24/7 and I take very good care of them . I spend time out with as I am outside all most all day every day . They get lots to eat ,drink, brushed , played with, treats and any and all medical treatments they need. But they were bred to do a job to think on there own with out the help of man it has not one thing to do with there size its the use of the breed .
But this is not the case with this dog and her pups . This is a bad owner not properly caring for her or his dog in the right way . First not spaying so would never have pups ,then not treating her for fleas or vac. and worming so she would be healthy . This is someone that does not care to provide the care. But when this dog dies from something preventable would say I loved her so much she was one of my kids . Even though she had never been to vet. or given a bath. Hope this girl makes it in spite of her stupid owner . |

They really dont know anybetter, as much as you try too, to tell them they don't get it and think it's right, because that is the way they were raised. I was lucky enough not to be raised on the res, and my dad also was not, but his father was and my dad still has some of those common thoughts/ways of life. It is just something that they do and they think it is okay. It's unfortunate, and only education at a young age can save them, but sadly, no one wants to give them an education, so they don't understand the norms of today's society.
As for the other thoughts. I personally will never have an outside only dog, but I don't think it is wrong. You can have a dog, love it, care for it, and keep it outside. Many dogs like that (who are properly vetted) have a better life than being euthed. |

| Re: HELP! My dog's puppies may die... I have known cattle dogs that want no part of being inside. They are loved and well cared for but they live outside. They do have shelter. How many of you are from real rural areas? My dog is strictly an inside dog only out with me. |
