| Does your dog have friends? I'm bored and (although I seem to rarely make new thread) I thought this might be kind of fun!
We take Bridgette to the dog park quite often and she has one dog in particular that she LOVES! Her name is Adamae (Addie) and she's a Pit mix also. I have chatted with the owner a lot too and she says that every time this Addie is there and Bridgette isn't she just doesn't want to play...as soon as Bridgette comes the two are bounding around like a couple of wild dogs! They have so much fun!
Some of her other friends are Jackaroo (Jack...a greyhound), Lewis (lab mix), and a Catahoula mix whose name I cannot for the life of me remember. She has tons more, but I won't list them all! lol |

| Re: Does your dog have friends? Haha - yeah Koi has friends (Even though I feel stupid to admit it.)
He's got his Toller friends, as well as his long time Dog Park buddies Jax (JRT), Raven (Lab Retriever), Chess (English Springer), and Gooti (Doberman) |

| Re: Does your dog have friends? one thing that i have discovered in the "world of Border Collies" is that they tend to be "snobs"....meaning, they really don't have time for many other dogs outside of the ones in their own families or other BC's.....they will try to "herd" other breeds away, and really don't play much outside of the ones in their own house....but, once a dog is brought into the "pack" they tend to be quite protective of them as well.....here's a pic of most of my dogs friends (notice that they are mostly BC's or BC mixes).....this was Saoirse's B-day "party"....she's the one laying down in front
there are afew missing, but they all get along real good for the most part (little tiffs here and there)... |

| Re: Does your dog have friends? tirluc: That's so cool! We rarely have BCs at the dog park (that's probably why). There's one BC mix that comes regularly but I usually leave when they come because the dog is fairly aggressive. The owner is "positive" that the dog is just 'verbal' and 'playing' but I know dogs and I have seen this dog "go for" many other dogs.
Oh here's a funny thing...you might find it funny anway tirluc...they told us Bridgette was a BC mix. Other than the fact that she is black and white (which many breeds can be) she looks and acts NOTHING like a BC. I laughed when they told us that. |

| Re: Does your dog have friends? Yes, I have noticed that border collies seem to prefer other border collies.
Esther is not so discriminating, which is fortunate, since there aren't a lot of Plott hounds around here.
Her best dog friend is her live-in schnauzer, Zeke. It's a friendship based on necessity since, most of the time, each other is what they've got. Still, they seem genuinely fond of one another.
Esther has a ball-chasing buddy. His name is Oliver and he's another uncommon breed - an American water spaniel. She has a walking-around-and-occasionally-rough-house friend, Bella, who is a Shar-Pei. And she has a beat-the-hell-out-of-each-other-and-convince-people-we're-killing-each-other friend: a handsome brindle boxer named Jake. By a happy coincidence, Oliver's, Bella's and Jake's owners are three of my favorite people at the dog park, so we're a happy bunch when we run into one-another.
Dogs, I believe, have a scent memory of every dog they've met and they record information about whether they like that dog or not. Either way, it doesn't take them long to "catch up" when they are reunited after a period of separation. |

By the way, Bridgette is beautiful--I am sure Riley would love her and the border collie birthday party was a great picture!! http://www.dogster.com/dogs/500730

| Re: Does your dog have friends? Mine all have their friends, more Kita though, shes a social butterfly.
Her best friend is a little Heinz 57 named Sassy. They have been best buds since they were both pups.
Meik kinda keeps to himself ( gonna have to head over to tirlucs house I think lol, his "type" of dogs are there lol)
Puppy loves every other dog/cat/rabbit/chicken/ you name it he meets. Most of them dont like him much though? Poor Ol boy, just wants friends of his own.
Bailey has his housemates for friends, he doenst really like dogs bigger than him, and will start a little scuffle. We're still working on that. He's still pretty new round here. |

| Re: Does your dog have friends? Beavis' first "girlfriend" was our trainer's very tall lab-pointer mix Anna. He barely comes up to Anna's wrist, but he loves her. He also gets along great with a black & white female pit mix named Oreo that sometimes gets loose and we have to walk her back to her yard and lock her back up. And there's Rocky, a longhaired German Shepherd who he loves to run and play with in the park. Rocky's off leash, but I wouldn't trust Beav off leash, so he's on his retractable. |

| Re: Does your dog have friends? We have 'friends' although our papillons' friends are more like their relatives. We keep in touch with all the pap people around here. (Paps are another breed that prefers to be with their own kind). We have 'family reunions' all the time as I don't tend to trust dogs at dog parks with the little ones. Harry's best friend is Beau- he follows him everywhere.
Beau's favorite friend to play with is his younger sister, Sable, who is also the teacher for our obedience class (Go figure!) :
They also play with Dalia, Amy, Gigi, Rose, Denise, Beau Sr, Wendy, Summer, Piggy, Gherkin, Shania, Lakota, Panda, and Jake. All are papillons and most are relatives.
Some pics of the crew:
Amy, Dalia, Sable, Summer, Gigi, and Mimi, I believe- it's hard to tell them apart from the back

Well I am (finally!) done with work now so I am off to the dog park! I will hopefully be taking my camera today so I'll be sure to post pics of Bridge's friends later on.
Later! |

| Re: Does your dog have friends? When it's your own, you can always tell. I had two pure black long haired cats, and everyone would always ask how I could tell them apart. And I'd think, "Duh, Sheba's eyes are gold, and Gypsy's have a greenish tinge. Sheba's tail is longer. Gypsy has one short white whisker on the top of her head. They look nothing alike!" |

| Re: Does your dog have friends? My dog seems to prefer the company of boxers. I don't know whether it is because the ones he has met have same energy level as he does, or if maybe he just not-so-secretly wants to be one.
Generally, he just loves any dog that will play with him. He doesn't really care if it's a dog he's played with a hundred times or a dog he's never met before as long as it will run around the dog park with him. |

At first I had no idea which on was which, but after being friends for ages I couldn't believe people couldn't tell them apart! I was constantly saying "they look nothing alike!" I even had a crush on one and not the other...lol. |

| Re: Does your dog have friends? my Borders are all "colour coded".....they have red leash/collar/bandana/bowl for Tipper; blue of each for Lacey; green for Tir; and all that in purple for Saoirse....and i did this b/c i got tired of people asking me how i tell the difference between my dogs ("duh, the markings/size/ears/etc are all different")....and the funny thing is, i was asked this from people w/ Labs, Goldens, Danes, Dobermans, etc. ....go figure.... |

| Re: Does your dog have friends? Well their bestest friend ever is each other LOL Although OC has a mighty sweet spot for my friend's Caucasian Ovcharka and she really likes him too (she puts up with a lot more of his banterings than what she lets other dogs get away with). he adores her so much that when she's doing her "guarding bark" he tries to mimic her (this i s the dog that pretty much never barks). It spounds pathetic because he really doesnt know how to bark (it was a very gutteral wwwwwuf) but hey, he still tried his darndest! LOL |

They do all look similar, I have to admit. At least with the line you know what you're getting LOL. I tell them all apart mainly by facial markings. They vary a lot though in coat length, facial structure, ear size, ear fringing, tail sets, tail fringing, markings, size, etc. Okay, so they're all probably really small differences to most people, but they make them look very different to me.
Here's a fun one:
Those are two different dogs. The one on the left (sorry about the bad picture) is Mimi- Beau Jr's aunt and Harry's mother and the one on the right is Beau Jr. Their faces look so much alike.
Here's a fun shot:
It's hard to get any pictures with that many little dogs around. (Note the ears in the front) The pom is named Candy btw, I forgot about her earlier. Harry and Gigi are the cute little puppies
No one can tell Nikki and Trey apart which baffles me- they look absolutely NOTHING alike other than the fact they're both shelties. Trey is a mahogany (nearly black) and Nikki is a light brown.
