Loose dog problem I live out in the country on 7.5 acres. There are many people that don't care for their animals. I have 3 dogs now on chains because of one of my close neighbors. My dogs have all their shots including rabies. But the other dogs that for some reason are drawn to my house and my neibors house don't they have mange and all kinds of malnutrition and other such things as that. I have had numerous dogs have puppys under my house and have taken them to the pound. I try to ketch the mothers with the pups but not always posible so what next more pups under the house. Now my neighbors are still trying to tell me that my dogs are comming into their yard and stilling their kids toys when it is not my dogs because they are tied and at night they are in my house. Now their are toys of the kids in my yard because of the strays but what do strays know about leaving the evadence in my yard. My dogs do get off their chains to romp in my yard supervised by me and do not get close to their yard. I am also worried about my dogs getting something from these other dogs. What should I do? I am at a loss of things to do.

Call animal control, and see if they will assist you with catching all the strays (or any many as they can).

Call your local Animal Control Agency to have the animals removed.

I kbow what would happen if that happened in my county. The dogs would be shot. we have no animal control. If there is a stray, we take him to the next county's shelter, get a receipt and the county reimburses.

I don't like to say it but I have had to shoot some. I wouldn't like someone to shoot my baby's but they are well fed and cared for. I wish someone would give me a cage to catch them in but then taking them to the aminal controll will just have them put to sleep. It is the best in the eyes of starving and neglect. It is just that my neighbors are still saying my dogs are getting loose and getting their kids toys. I can't prove they arn't because I am not there untill 4:30 in the afternoon and that is when they have supervised romps with the horses. I just hope my neighbors don't poison my dogs when I am gone. My neighbor also told me my dogs were melitious. She was watching them play one day. They tackle each other and growle and just have a good old time once off the chain. She said they are going to attach someone one of these days and it would be all on me. She also said they bark too much and they wake up the baby. Well excuse me for living they are dogs and it is the country. So get over it. O ya and it is just my dogs doing this!?!?!?!?! I havn't had problem in years. What is wrong with people these days......

You ever tried to get a baby back to sleep? How about taking a minute to shut your dog up? I'd bark and carry on too if I was chained out in the yard all day.
And don't shoot any more dogs! |

No I don't talk to my neighbors like that that is what I want to tell them. The thing is that my dogs bark at the loose dogs and the loose dogs bark back it isn't just my dogs. Do you want all the strays that are in my neighborhood you can have them. 98% of them are all pregnate and are going to bust soon.... I sertinly don't want any more dogs at my house I have enough peoblems with my own without adding more of them. And for some reason they magicly migrate to my house looking for help. In fact I called the animal shelter and they said they don't want any more dogs right now so just shoot them. My other point is that untill her kid and his kid moved in we didn't have a problem. Then they wanted me to tie the dogs well I did telling them what one would do. Now they want me to fix the problem that they caused in the first place. My dogs had been loose for a year and now they all of a sudden freek because of this child and blame it all on my dogs when there are all kinds of strays around doing the same thing. The other thing is that I am glad they bark. If they didn't I wouldn't have been here today. December last year someone tried to break into my house while I was there. My neighbor now that is mad noticed my dogs carring on and came to check out what was going on. He said he saw a man trying to find a way into the house but the dogs wouldn't let him on the porch. He came and told the man to leave then told me I had some good dogs. The dogs also stopped someone from breaking into his house while he was sleeping. They tell me when someone pulls up and when there is a dog that isn't supose to be there. But also a squirl, bunny, and woodlin creatures. I would never tell my dogs not to bark they very well may save my life one day.

Dogs are meant to be inside the house with their owners...not chained outside. Why have them anyway? To look at?

My dogs are inside when I am home. When I am not they are outside because they hurt themselves trying to get outside. The lab has jumped through 3 windows trying to get outside. Thankfully only one of which caused an injury which was a broken leg on impact no glass on them. The others follow. I would kennel them but the lab ate the last kennel we had. You think I am lying I am not I have the profe still. The lab ate a metal bumper off my sisters friends truck. Took her a month but she did it. And no my dogs are not just to look at. THey surve as my protectors. From anything snakes to people. They surve their purpose greately. They are just chained while I am at work and when I get home the rest of the day is spent with the horses and then they sleep in my room. They do spend some time in the air conditioning just about as much as I do except when I am at work. They would rather be outside then in any old day of the week anyway. They love being outside. I see nothing wrong with it. Now I wish I didn't have to chain them but that is the only way for one of them plus I don't have the income to build a fence for the others. So tied they stay I just wish there was a way to solve the stary problem.

I would start putting a few dollars away every week to save for a nice size chain link fence. This will keep strays OUT and your dogs IN. If no one in your county is going to help, you will have to take matters into your own hands. My only other peice of advice is to contact the newspaper and or local news.

Chain link HA HA I have a dog that scales my parents 6 foot chainlink fence like it was nothing. There for the reason why she is at my house. You have another suggestion.... Like I said before a fence won't work.

| Well I guess you're up the creek then. I DID suggest contacting the newspaper and local news as well.
edited to add that you said " I just wish there was a way to solve the stary problem." I doubt the strays will jump your fence.

They may be over loaded but there are laws regarding licensing in the city as well as the country. Each county had it's own ordinance regarding leash laws and immunizations. If these dogs are not immunized and not licensed they are a danger to you and your dogs. Keep after these people they can come out and check for licensing. They can charge big fines for dogs that are not licensed and, or confiscate the animals.
