wow chloef your a vet tech and a massage therapist! thats cool. Its so much fun learning all this stuff about dogs and cats! of course I have to learn about a lot of other animals too though. The reason I didnt want to be a vet is because I dont want to be the one doing the surgery, I can help but I dont want to actually do it. Also 2 years of schooling is nothing compared to like 8 years to be a vet!

For me it was having to euthainze animals that made me realize I wouldn't be able to do the job. We had a very old pony at the barn I volunteer and ride at, he was almost 29 years old. He had begun to have a hard time eating and he had had breathing problems for a few years not to mention laminitis had cripled him making it very difficult for him to walk a few years prior as well. The vet came into to put him down and I was in the stall when it happened and even though it was his time and he was suffering it was still SOO hard, I cried for about a week afterwards. And even when we put Bess and Maggie down it was sooooo hard to deal with for me.

yeah we just learned about euthanasia before spring break. As long as I dont think of my personal experience with it I am fine learning about it. But my friend during the week we were learning about it she was really depressed. she wouldnt even talk to me much she would just stare at the ground. She even skipped a class that was on how to handle grief (which if you ask me she definatly should have attended, she needed it!) They told us that for the people who couldnt handle euthanasia there are some hospitals where there are enough people there that they can do it and you dont have to. Is that how it is with your job?

Well the vets are the only ones allowed to do the euthainzing at my clinic but there are enough people around that if one person cannot deal with it they don;t have to be there. because I do massage I usually don't have to help out with euthanisia but on the rare occasion (four times) I had to step into the room to be w witness and listen for the heatbeat as well and to comfort the family members. It is very hard but I find it much easier to deal with now especially because there are alot of people working along side of me and we can all talk to each other and we all understand the feelings that you experience.

Thanks SHL. I heard the preview of that report a couple of years ago but missed the article. Have been afraid to give Greenies to my dogs since. I had free samples of them from a pet exop when they 1st came out. They went in the bin.
