Re: What's the Weirdest/Funniest Thing You Have Been Asked About Your Dog?

Someone asked me if Faith was a pitbull. Hmm, i didnt know a beagle/rotti looked anywhere near a pit. Maybe they are secretly related?

Re: What's the Weirdest/Funniest Thing You Have Been Asked About Your Dog?

One day my DH and I were walking our miniature poodle, about 20 pounds and 15 inches tall, and our standard poodle, roughly 50 pounds and about a foot taller. We ran into a man who said, "Them twins?"

And mine would have been annoying the dog to get pets from you. Dobermans have a tendency to act really calm and peaceful, so that people will keep petting them without even realizing it. And they no exactly how to look irresistible to any stranger with a free hand.

I have another one to add too. Since my dogs are shown in conformation, they have a very long ear cut that has to be posted for several months in order for the ears to stand erect. Well, strangers always ask me if my puppy just got his ears done. And they are afraid to pet the dog so they won't hurt their ears.

Well during the time we are having this conversation about the ears, my puppies are generally pretty sad that no one is giving them a pat on the head. So I started bending the ears over so they could tell how comfortable the taping actually was for the puppy.

But I had a kid once that saw Dusk with his ears taped up. He looked at me and Dusk all confused, and then he said in a really low voice, "Did he have brain surgery?"

Re: What's the Weirdest/Funniest Thing You Have Been Asked About Your Dog?

People always refer to my dog as a "she" regardless of how many times I tell them he's a boy.

When we go on our hospital visits, occasionally someone will ask if my dog is mean and if he bites, which I suppose would be a semi-legitimate question out in public, but why on earth would I be bringing my dog to the hospital to visit the patients if he was mean and bit people!?

Re: What's the Weirdest/Funniest Thing You Have Been Asked About Your Dog?

I was once asked why my "greyhounds" had so much hair, where I got them, and BOY they must be worth a fortune since they're so rare! Those long-haired greyhounds! [Harley is very tall, and fairly light boned for a collie.]
Then he proceeded to ask me when [not if ] I planned to breed them, how much I was going to sell their pups for, etc, etc.

I'm constantly being asked if they're mother & daughter because of their height difference. When I say no, people say "oh, father and daughter? Father and son?" When I say they aren't related, they automatically assume I plan to breed them because they're male and female. [Why is sex and babies the only thing on people's minds? Sheesh]

I also had a woman with a sheltie puppy approach me in petsmart and ask me if I thought her dog looked too "Collie-ish" and if I thought her breeder might have given her a Collie rather than a Sheltie.

A couple of stoned college girls also asked me if my dogs were movie stars, and WHAT movie they were in because they looked so familiar.
I'm used to the whole "Lassie!" and reach to pet them.

My two "long-haired greyhounds"... that happen to be AKC registered.

I walk my toy poodle everyday for an hour sometimes an hour and a half. I was walking her and was actually asked, "Wow can she really walk on her own?"

...DUH.

I love Dobermans. Many years ago I was dating this gal that lived in a part of town that wasn't the best. She had a male and female one. She had them trained like no other dogs I have seen. Part of their training included protecting her. If you went into her house when she was alone, your life would have been in peril. If you were in her house as an invited guest, these two dogs were your friends. If you tried to sneak into her house, these two Dobermans became your nightmare. I was amazed at their intelligence.

Before I met her, she worked at Marineworld. She trained the Orangutans and Leopards. I guess you could say she knew animal behavior.

Guess which of these two animals she prefered to work with?
