| *sigh* Frustrated by Papillon search I'm trying to find a place to adopt/rescue a papillon but there's no places in VA that have any available. Well, there's one site that MIGHT, but they are "rolling out a new network" so no dogs posted for weeks
(which is stupid because suppose I saw a pap that needed rescue - he'd have to suffer for weeks for their stupid network update?)
How can I expand my search to maybe uncover some available papillons?
I guess that's a sign of how loved the breed is - no one's giving them up!
Just frustrated. |

| Re: *sigh* Frustrated by Papillon search Yeah they're not very common in rescues yet which is a GOOD thing. What rescues are you looking at? I know of several PapHaven, Pap911, and PCART are three off the top of my head.
I see some on petfinder too but you have to check frequently. Many are adopted within a week. I don't know if you're opposed to a breeder but if you're looking for an adult papillon maybe you could see if some breeders have retirees or rehomes? I've done that twice and ended up with awesome dogs. |

| Re: *sigh* Frustrated by Papillon search We have TONS in the Michigan/Indiana/Ohio area. In fact, this one has been at this shelter near me for over TWO years. Yes. Years. Maybe I can mail him to you. |

I think I have PapHaven open now - I think there's are all over and not in the state, though.
I'll remember to check petfinder more often.
I'm not opposed to going to a breeder - just wanted to see if there were some paps looking for homes (that and I never thought about breeders dealing with adult dogs - aside from their breeding pairs of course). Quote:

Occasionally breeders will get dogs back or have young dogs that can't show for whatever reason that will be available. It might be worth a look. Quote: |

| Do you have a picture? I'm not trying to be snotty but there's a lot of chis that get labeled as papillons in shelters. We've had a couple of those come through ours and get labeled as paps but never a real papillon. If he is a pap then would they let a breed specific rescue take him? I bet if you emailed PCART with his story they could figure out a way to pull him and get him fostered... |

I'm not very good at telling the difference, but when I met him he had the body/coat of a pap. This is the picture on petfinder, and he doesn't look so good:
The thing is, he's already at a "rescue" and I doubt she would cooperate. The lady that runs it has problems. I worked there for a summer and she was using old medications to medicate dogs for problems she guessed herself. I reported it several times, but the place is still running. She also spun a Corgi and a Min Pin around in the air by their leashes when I walked by with the Corgi, yelling "That isn't how dogs meet!" The dogs are outdoors constantly, anywhere from 10-20 a pen, with one dog house and one water bucket. Michigan has too harsh of winters for little guys to be out there with no shelter. If you want a dog, you pay cash and she hands you the dog, no application, no signing anything, nothing. I have tons of horror stories from a month of being there.
There are dogs that have been there for a few years because no one wants to adopt from her. All the other rescues around here complain about her constantly. If any dogs are posted on craiglist, there are always follow up posts trashing the place. Meanwhile these dogs are stuck. |

Hard to tell what's going on with his ears in that pic, Poor Thing.
Sounds like an awful 'rescue'. I feel so bad for that pup and the others she has. Its too bad she's not shut down and her dogs given to a REAL rescue. |

They always are. I've seen maybe two occasions where he wasn't stressed. Otherwise, they stand erect and have a good amount of fringe.
There are a few like him that have been there for years. I'd love to get them out, but all I can do is keep reporting and hoping someone gives a crap. To pull them I'd have to pay the adoption fees myself, and they're $250-$300, which I can't shell out over and over. I e-mailed the pet shop she does adoption events in, and the owner tells me she started finding foster homes for the dogs. Maybe after our foster is adopted I can take in a few of the little ones. |
