Strange pooping behavior

On this morning's walk, my 6-year-old Norwich terrier suddenly stopped in the middle of the street and hunched over to poop. Then he took a couple of steps, hunched over again, and let out a yelp. Couple more steps, same thing. Did this about 5 or 6 times, then seemed normal, no problems for the rest of the day. This happened once before, about a year ago, he's been normal ever since, until today. Any idea what might be causing this?

I would call and talk to your vet if I was you. It could be something such as impacted bowels. Or it could be something as simple as being constipated. Try adding a little canned pumpkin (not the pie mix) to his food, but do call your vet.

I agree sounds like constipation. My older dog strains once in a while. I give her a few canned green beans (unsalted), and she's able to go in a few hours.

Thanks. Not sure though, because in both cases it was a one-shot deal, he was fine afterward, pooping normally again...

strange.....

Does he have any history of back problems? Could be the position or the straining is causing him some discomfort. Virginia
