My Male Shih Tzu

My 4 year old shih tzu needs a lady for some loving. If anybody out there has a female shih tzu and wants to mate her, then please let me know.

I assume your shih is 1) a registered purebred 2) some kind of champion, like show champion, agility champion, etc and 3) has been tested for all the genetic conditions you might pass along to any puppies?

I highly doubt you're going to find a reputable breeder who will let their dogs give yours "some lovin'." Why do you want to breed your dog? Is it proven in some way to be a good example of its breed?

they are everywhere...............I swear.......will it ever end??

Maybe it is some sort of "compensation" thing for the owners lives.........................I dunno. But I'm *this* close to avoiding all dog forums because of the anger I feel when I come across this kind of stuff.

Exactly. While thousands of dogs wait, praying and hoping, for a loving home.

I could have easily bred my female newf - had people giving me their names if I ever decided to breed her but I am not going to breed her just because she's pretty and people like her. I'm not willing to risk her life just to provide someone with a puppy. I direct all of those kinds of inquiries to the breeder I got her from, after encouraging them to try a newf rescue organization or a shelter. She was spayed at six months - no puppies for her!

ok I am pretty new here and hope I dont step on any toes but I have been wondering this. This pup I have is registered but he is what they are calling a hybrid he is registered thru the american canine hybrid club. Ok I dont know of any shows they can win or anything like that sooo how would you decide if he is good for breeding?? Thanks Todd

I think in order to show him, his breed has to be recognized by the AKC. Sorry, but IMO, "hybrid" is just another name for mutt. I know that designer dogs are becoming more popular, like goldendoodles and such - but they are ultimately just mixed breeds.

Is your avatar a pix of him? He looks like a cross between a bully breed and a mastiff. Cute guy!

Breeding is expensive when done right - and if you are looking to make money at it then its the wrong business to be in. Not to mention all the health risks you take when you breed. IMO - you should just enjoy the time you have with your big guy and forget about breeding him. Have him neutered so that you don't have to worry about him having health problems later in life.

Depending on what shows your kennel club may host, that is where you show him and that is where he should/can earn titles. For instance, an APBT is registered thru UKC, I have to show mine at UKC sanctioned events, my breed is not recognized by the AKC.

I have had a litter, this is why I am so against it. before the bandwagon of BYB haters try to slam me, a BYB I am not.It is a fairly long stupid story, but the main objectives are1) we bought a show quality puppy to hopefully breed one day after earning titles and such2)I was diagnosed w/ a form of cancer3)Hubby thought the worst(typical man!)_ and decided to breed my dog as a Christmas gift..................he says to give me reason and hope, because my dog is my dream come true.4) I had 8 beautiful puppies, one died, one has an over bite from hell and one has (get this) Cerbral Palsy!

So, I now have 3 puppies, 4 are gone to good homes, spay/nutered except one who is showing, and my heart breaks every day when I think about how much I miss them, and how my Daizy crawls with horrible muscle spacity and it is terrible.

I spay/nuetered contracted my pups, and they are upheld contracts by attorneys, it cost me thousand so far in attorneys fees, nuerologists, vaccinations, and all the necessities needed to raise a litter.

I had hundreds of calls from thugs wanting my pups, wanting to pay upwards of $2000 each, punks a$$holes who wanted to breed at 6 mos old, a$$holes who anted to fight them, a$$holes from parts of the country where they are banned like Denver.........I gave them away to good homes w/out a dime. NOBODY does that!!!

This is why I hate BYBs.And yes, hate is a powerful word, but the thought of thousands of suffering animals in th eworld, an dirresponsible people make me literally sick.

I thank GOD everyday that he gave me this litter, not because I got to have a litter of puppies, but because I got them, because HE knew I would correct a wrong and do whats right, even if it meant going beyond my power.

I dont hate breeders, and beleive everyone has to start somewhere.

I would not slam you for this. Fisrt of all, you are correct every reputable breeder started somewhere. 2nd, you did the right thing in spat/neuter contracting them, and 3rd, you recognize any mistakes and are taking responsibility and for that i applaud you.

BUT~My dog wasnt health tested, so I am basically not guaranteed where my pups will end up in the long run health wise. But you cnan bet your butt I did many a line research!!!(Thankfully, didnt find anything bad!!!)

I didnt earn titles for the b~witch before hand, and now she is sway back, I have ruined her after tons of $$$ in training for show, agility and obedience.Gone to absolutly nothing.

I just worry that the pups being bred, the majority of them, aren't loved and their futures are not guaranteed, I mean, how can they be??I know, many out there are not like me!

Heck, 10 years ago I prolly wouldn't have been like I am now.

But it is all over and done with.

I know everyone wants to be a breeder, and has to start somewhere, I just wish they'd listen and start the right way.

Even if they are in it for the $$$$$, one would think the titles and health testing would make them worth mre!

But no, it's a greedy situation, at the expense of real lives.

I will shut up now.

Allow me to step off my soap box....................................G'night!

I didn't realize that APBT's weren't recognized by the AKC. I know that Staffies are.

I don't think anyone would condemn you for your one litter of pups - you didn't do it thinking you were going to make easy money and you are taking responsibility for the pups. And its true - every breeder had to start somewhere.

To the Original Poster of this thread:
In my experience, no reputable/ethical breeder goes to a public forum searching for a "mate" for their dog. Breeding dogs FIRST and foremost should always be about bettering the respective breed as a whole.
Have you read your breed's standard? Do you know what health issues are involved with your breed?

Sorry, all I see here is someone looking to make a fast dollar at the expense of the dogs.

Try that ^
