Buddy is Shredding

Hi again - How can you tell I'm new and have soooo many questions.

Buddy (10 weeks old today) is left in his exercise cage for approx. 8 hours during the day. So of course we started with a puppy pad for him to do his business on. He did great for the first couple of weeks but now he shreds his puppy pad as soon as I put it in the cage. He has a number of toys to play with so I don't think he's bored. I know someone will give me a simple solution which I will feel very stupid not figuring out on my own - but "so be it".

I would play with a puppy pad if it were the most interesting thing in my pen. The fact that he is looking for things to entertain himself is actually a sign that he needs more mental stimulation for his quickly developing mind. Therefore, you need to keep the items in his pen new, fresh, and exciting. Rotate his toys as much as possible. Add new and differnt chewable toys as often as possible. I prefer interactive toys like twist-n-treats, buster cubes, or the famous Kongs. Just keep in mind that he will be as rowdy as he needs to be with his toys, so make sure the pen is secure. I hope this helps.

Thanks - he is very active but as all puppies has a short attention span. I have taken the puppy pad right out of his cage and let him do his business on the hardwood floor (but would rather not). I do give him a kong as I'm leaving for work. Maybe I'll try putting the pad back in and get him some new toys. It couldn't hurt.
