| Trick-or-Treating with dogs... Does anyone here every bring their dogs out with the kids to go trick-or-treating on Halloween?
I was thinking tonight that, since I love Halloween but don't have kids and am 'too old' to trick-or-treat that I'd dress up the dogs and bring them to the select number of dog friendly people I know. I could give them little pales to carry to recieve biscuits in!
We could call it " Tick-or-Treating"
Nah, I probably won't because I don't know enough people who are dog friendly, and my dogs don't like the neighbors kids so bringing them around the neighborhood wouldn't be a good idea.
But does anyone dress up their dog for Halloween, and better yet, bring them out with the kids for trick-or-treating? |

| Re: Trick-or-Treating with dogs... Unless your dogs are VERY, VERY tolerent of people acting strangely, wearing weird costumes (especially masks!), and lots of running and shrieking kids, I think I'd pass. My guys *are* tolerent of all of the above, and we still stay home with the lights off and a few scarey movies.
Petsmart and Petcos have a bunch of fun pet events the week before halloween - why not do that instead? |

| Re: Trick-or-Treating with dogs... My dogs participate on Halloween by accompanying my grandkids going door-to-door in our neighborhood for about an hour. They wear costumes, and carry their own treat pails! LOL Then it's back home to me where they help by holding the handle of the plastic pumpkin filled with candy, and approach each child.. I also have a pumpkin, for those children who might be fearful of dogs. Maddy and Beau are a big hit with the kids, and often win the hearts of those who are afraid of dogs. Good ambassadors, my Poo Dells! |

| Re: Trick-or-Treating with dogs... i have one Border that has no problem w/ the costumes and such, one that would turn tail and run for parts unknown, one that would most likely nip trying to drive the "evil" away, and 2 i'm not quite sure how they would react.....Titch, i think, would be quite aggressive (he's very protective of me) and Meghan, i think, would be like Saoirse...turn tail and run...but that's hard to say w/ her..... |

| Re: Trick-or-Treating with dogs... When my daughter was younger, I took her and my big lab trick-or-treating. It was a blast and it was amazing how many households had bowls of dog treats for such a situation.
If I took Esther out for Halloween, they'd be able to make a horror movie about it. They could call it Halloween 27. |

| Re: Trick-or-Treating with dogs... We actually plan on dressing Lennox up for Halloween this year! He is often caleld a "horse dog" because of his size so i'm thinking about dress him like a headless hoprseman. (well, his horse.)
He has no problem meeting with any neighbors or strangers but i doubt we actually go out and knock on neigbors doors for trick or treating.

| Re: Trick-or-Treating with dogs... All in good humor, I wasn't seriously considering bringing my dogs out. There's no way they'd handle that well. Although, I may just bring them to my sisters as a gag, but they won't be "all dressed up", just their halloween bandanas on
It's cool that some people have been able to bring their dogs out on Halloween though! I think that demonstrates a rock solid temperment and those owners should be really proud!
I think individually my boys would do okay walking around our neighborhood that doesn't have a lot of families, and therefore not a lot of kids (there's about 6 houses in this area), but together they just feed off eachothers anxiety, so I always try to keep them apart in high stress situations. (Like bringing them into town; it's now like a special thing they get to spend the day with mommy by themselves but really it's just that they're too much to handle together lol). |

| Re: Trick-or-Treating with dogs... My dogs have always loved Halloween. (Guess they really are Demon dogs) My old girl went trick or treating year after year with my nephews. Now they just dress up and help with the candy hand outs. It is still fun though. |

| Re: Trick-or-Treating with dogs... One problem that I could forsee with taking a pet trick or treating is that you don't know what other people's pets are like (unless you are just visiting people you know). We had a girl come by with a little dressed up dog last year, and Colombia my cat came running and gave it a good swipe to the face. I would have never known that she would do such a thing.
We didn't have Daisy yet since she joined the family in January, but this year she will likely have to be locked upstairs when the kids start coming by so that she doesn't get too excited. |

| Re: Trick-or-Treating with dogs... I had actually thought of bringing Shiner out with us...th shelties wouldn't do as well I don't think....but if I did I would wait on the street while my kids went to peoples doors. My street is also having a halloween block party and I'm planning on taking Shiner for that. |

| Re: Trick-or-Treating with dogs... We live out in the country so we don't go trick or treating. Which is fine by me - instead we have a family night and watch a movie while munching down on bags of candy. LOL
If we did the dogs would not be going with us. Well, Blackie and Rose don't care about kids, weird costumes, etc., but I can only imagine how many times Chloe would try to attack the demon that would be coming towards us.
My brother once put on a mask (a dead zombie thing) and walked downstairs in it when we had Sadie. Sadie FREAKED. She started barking at him and wouldn't let him get past the hallway. When he took the mask off she was fine, but she didn't understand what that monster was. Seeing as Chloe freaked out once when my brother put on a Santa Clause hat...not a good idea to take her out. LOL |
