| Advice Please!!!!!!!! Hi all! I have a major problem with my poor puppy! I took her to the vet and her answers were inconclusive! I need support and advice from all who are able to give some!
She is a 1 and 3 month old shitzhu. She has a bubble on the inside of her upper lip. I have attached photos of it. Have any of you exprerienced this with your doggys? Can anyone give me advice on what it might be or how to treat it? The vet would like to do a biopsy on it if it does not show inprovement...It hasn't shown improvement. I would like to know more about it before i send her to surgery.
Thank you for any help you can give me and my poor puppy!

| Re: Advice Please!!!!!!!! I'm sorry you have to deal with this in such a young pup. I have no experience with lumps in the mouth. How much time have you given it to improve?
Personally I would go with the vets recommendations. The sooner you find out exactly what it is the sooner you can surgically remove it or treat it. |

| Re: Advice Please!!!!!!!! It has been a week since I have noticed it. The vet told me to give it another week to two weeks to see if it showed any improvement. I am very uncomfortable with that. I do not think it looks any better. I wanted to come here to see if I could get any answers from people who may have experienced this sort of thing...maybe it does take that long.....
Thankyou for posting!

Lisa & Roxy | Yes, you got to listen to your Vet if you have doubts please get a 2nd Vet's opinion. Right now it's a long way from the heart so I don't think it's life threatening. The big question is does it look any worse. |

| Re: Advice Please!!!!!!!! Sorry, but I don't think there is anyone on here with a degree in medicine. If I saw that on one of my dogs, I would do what you did. Take it to the vet. Now you have two choices, follow the vets instructions or seek a second opinion from another vet -- not us. |

Actually, many here have knowledge in the vet field..if not for their own personal problems, then for their practices..I read posts all the time of vet-techs giving advice, people who work in that general field, etc..
Lurk around more and grow a heart.. @Roxy:
I am sorry about your pooch and I hope it is nothing serious..Maybe he bit his lip? I do that and have a lump on my cheek for days, if not weeks, afterwords to various sizes..
I hope it is nothing! Please keep us updated!

| Re: Advice Please!!!!!!!! HA! I wasn't gonna reply until I saw that wild accusation. Guess I didn't see blunder's response as rude, not to mention you can't dictate who posts and who doesn't.
ŋDid you tell your vet you were uncomfortable with that, or did you just sit there and wonder about it in your head? No vet I know of would just let it ride if I were not happy with something. There would be tests and biopsy's and such... (Kind of like your vet recommended.) |

| Re: Advice Please!!!!!!!! NO
and a vet tech is not a VET
they don't have medical training.... they are trained to be like a Nurses assistant.... they can draw blood and do basic things but they are not VETS
and many have no training at all.....
NOBODY here is a vet
and even if someone was a vet you can not diagnose with pictures over the internet
the original poster should be following her vets advice and not coming to an internet bulletin board as an alternative to following the advice of the vet....
Blunder is absolutely correct
if that were my dog I would be having that lump removed and biopsied.... KINDA what your VET suggested.....
If you don't trust your vet go get a second opinion....
BUT coming to an internet bulletin board with a couple pictures to get advice about what to do from anonymous people online is just plain silly.....
and I dont care if you call ME cruel and heartless.....

My post was in no way rude, all I did was state FACT, truly am sorry that it wasn't what you wanted to hear. But, since you already must have known what you wanted to hear, WHY DID YOU ASK? |

| Re: Advice Please!!!!!!!! Sorry but I'm with blunder, harisse and shalva on this one.. Only vets can tell you what is really wrong.. If you are not happy with the first vet's opinion, you can always get a second, third or fourth opinion from other vets. Only the professional can properly diagnose your dog.
Sorry to hear about your dog's condition. |

| Re: Advice Please!!!!!!!! Note: I'm not a vet or a vet tech or anything.
That said, my pup currently has an ongoing wart problem which we're working through - the vet said they're not uncommon in puppies and usually clear up in 3-6 months. Your photos look *exactly* like what is on Elka's lips.
It's important to get a real diagnosis - no matter what it is, of course. If it's warts, you musn't let your dog come in physical contact with other dogs as it is contagious (we believe that Elka got this at the local dog park).
It took a biopsy to confirm the diagnosis; and there's no way I'd let something like this sit on my dog without knowing what it is. Then again, I have a cat with chronic ear infections and another one with kidney failure and near liver failure; so I live in "pet health paranoia".
Good luck and keep us updated! |

| Re: Advice Please!!!!!!!! Hm, I don't know much about that. I've never heard of it, but it does remind me of when humans get bubbles in their mouth. They're cold sores or pimples. I don't know if dogs have the same thing? |

| Re: Advice Please!!!!!!!! These aren't cold sores (which are a form of herpes); these are actual warts, the type that humans freeze off.
It's really impossible for me to tell if Roxy's dog has the same thing, of course; but if I were to take a picture (I'd need a second person to help) that is pretty much the exact same thing you see. Elka has 4 of them, and it started as 2. I can't wait for this to be over because Elka really misses daycare/socializing. =/ |

This is wild. When somebody asks for health advice from people who can be 1000s of miles from dog and then thinks a common sense reply is rude. Gee people you got to be a tad tougher than that if you're going to be on any forum. Nobody advised a witch doctor or some kind of home healing routine, most here said see a Vet or 2 Vets. I hope that posters understand that sometimes other posters may not be as accomplished as they would like you to believe they are, why would you want to take a chance with your beloved pet on a stranger's advice. Please, if in doubt go see your vet. I'm gone this is silly stuff, Harrisse if you have the stomach for it stay and fight the good fight. Life is too short. |

| Re: Advice Please!!!!!!!! I am not really sure what it is so I can't help you there and while I agree that only a vet can diagnose this and help with this, I just wanted to point out that she since her vet wanted her to wait a week she is probably just seeing if anyone else's dog might have had a bump on her lip because she is worried and wants to know the range of experiences with that sort of symptom and may want to bring ideas or questions to her vet.
Furthermore it may just be one way of her coping with the stress of her dog having some mysterious symptom and she was hoping for some comfort from fellow dog lovers. (Though I'm just guessing here...)
Anyway, I guess if I were in your shoes I'd go ahead and seek a 2nd opinion because if you're worried then peace of mind is priceless in this situation. Good luck!

| Re: Advice Please!!!!!!!! I cannot see in the picture but by the description my dog had something similar. He only had it for a week or two and the vet left it to see if it would go on its own. He is a big time chewer so we think he just injured himself chewing.
If I were you I would go with what your vet wants to do or find another for a second opinion. After two weeks I think the bubble should be gone if its going to go on its own. Good luck and keep us up to date. |

| Re: Advice Please!!!!!!!! This is caused due stress in new comming puppies, my labrador used to have it, vet had to make a surgery RIGHT AWAY it is very dangerous if it begins to spread around itīs mouth, leave it for some time, just like the vet said,itīs not infectious so donīt worry.
Best of luck! |
