Martingale

Do any of you use the cloth loop (not chain) martingales? I've been looking for one for Charlie that has a quick release buckle but can't seem to find any.

I found one online that might work but it has no relase at all! So are those types of martingales loose enough that you can just slip them over your dog's head without needing a buckle?

Re: Martingale

I used the one made by premier (I think) on my greyhound and yes it just slips over the head - they are adjustable but no buckle

Re: Martingale

The Premier was the one I was looking at. Is it hard to adjust? I'm just looking for the most convenient option.

Thanks!

Re: Martingale

The one I'm using now slips over Beav's head. The collar he had from the rescue was a martingale with a snap/buckle. I'll see if I still have it and what's the name on it.

Can anyone tell me the purposes and benefits of using a martingale collar?

It pretty much makes the collar where the dog can't slip out of it. It can also allow you to make corrections while still having a nylon collar. Its a lot safer then your normal collar that your tags are on.

I want to get one for Nubs for his own safety since my trainers want me to no longer use the prong collar on him so he can pass the CGC.

Re: Martingale

The Martingale is a great little collar and very easy to use. One thing to remember tho', the smaller the diameter of the collar the more severe the correction will be. So I do not recommend the the real thin ones that many show people use in the show ring.

So see if you can find a wide one like this

Re: Martingale

Yeah that's where I've been having trouble - trying to find one small enough for the neck but wider than 3/4" or 5/8". But the Premier collar comes in wider sizes so I think we'll try that.

Thanks for everyone's input. You guys rock!
