Puppy lifting paw to pee?

Do puppies (female) normally lift their paw to pee? Our girl always just puts her b** down and sits. This time, she went by a fence, and lifted her back paw. I was surprised to see this, would they normally do this?

Yes, lifting a leg is not gender specific as most people believe. Females will cock their legs just as males will sometimes squat.

yeah my dog's mom marks just like a boy dog, if not more...she lifts her leg every chance she get, and she's spayed!

Re: Puppy lifting paw to pee?

My dog rarely lefts her legs up. But usually when she does left her leg up, her pee slides down to her legs. So I'm guessing she didn't want her paw to be wet

Yeah, my male will squat so I am sure a female can lift.

Wittnessed this before! Our female whippets do the same thing... Normally just the older one, but our younger female will do so if her feet are very cold and it's winter time... I've even seen her shift feet mid-pee lol.

Re: Puppy lifting paw to pee?

Ever since I took care of my friend's male dog for 2 weeks, my dog pees lifting one leg up, just slightly off the ground. It was quite funny when she first started to do it because sometimes she'd lose her balance. I guess she wants to be just like everyone else...

Re: Puppy lifting paw to pee?

Both of my girls squat and lift a paw slightly when peeing - then they do a kind of hop off and turn when finished so they don't step in it. (They're both pee pad trained.)
