| Question for lab owners I was searching for a good lab breeder and found out my uncle is breeding them only about 30 miles away from where I live. I was really glad to hear that because he has a nice farm and has always been the go to guy for the family to get animal advice from.
I gave him a call and he said he gets all 3 colors and will have a litter ready by oct 25th and that most of them have been picked already, but he still had 2 chocolates and a female yellow pup not spoken for yet.
I really don't think I'll be ready in time for one then because I still have to do some work on the house before I'll know for sure if I'll have the money to put towards all those dog expenses but maybe for the next round.
black
yellow
chocolate
Which color would u pick and why? Would you go male or female?
I'm getting over my dalmation that passed enough to the point where I think I'm ready to have another dog around but I havn't ever dealt with a puppy b4. |

| Re: Question for lab owners Color is nothing more than what floats your boat. When all three are in the same litter expect to see the same spectrum of personalities that you would expect to see in any other litter. It is when you see an all yellow or all chocolate litter that you need to wonder if the breeding was done only for the color without regard for overall quality.
Gender is also a matter of personal preference. |

| Re: Question for lab owners I would pick a black lab. Only because I grew up with black labs and I like the color. Theres something soothing about it.
I like female dogs. I dont like the lifting of the leg and territory marking that male dogs do. I do realise that once neutered there is less of this in some instances but it still happens.
All of this is a matter of preference. |

| Re: Question for lab owners We only ever wanted and also chose a black female lab puppy, and she is absolutely adorable!
If you have no colour preference, think about the practical side. Do you have a light coloured carpet, do you mind the darker hair on it?
Consider also a foxred if you have no colour preference? |

| Re: Question for lab owners I'd be very cautious of litters with all three colors, simply because it seems that MOST (not all, but MOST) reputable lab breeders tend to breed black and yellow OR black and chocolate- not both. The genetics are pretty predictable, and it seems like most breeders try to avoid the liver-pigmented yellows, just because they're not genreally preferred. |

| Re: Question for lab owners I would be more conserned about what health checks he has had done on the parent(s), why he bred the dogs he did, are they papered? can you look back on past generations and see if they were properly health checked (OFA, CERF ect) |

| Re: Question for lab owners If the parent dogs are not OFA Good or Excellent, you can expect hip problems. That's just the way Labs are.
As for color, choose whatever color most of your clothes are . If you wear a lot of black, don't get a yellow Lab, if you wear a lot fo white, don't get a black or chocolate Lab. Labs shed like crazy. |

I'm not worried about how he breeds anyways I trust him 100% to know what he is doing......if it was someone else I would look in to it much more.
