| Trying to fix bad eating habits. I've got two great dogs, an akita mixed with anatolian shepherd and a pitbull mixed with bull mastiff. These dogs are two opposite personalities but the problem i have is that they are always in constant competition when it comes to food. They dont chew their food they just swallow it in seconds so they can rush to each others bowl (even though it is empty) to sniff and lick. I've tried separating them, even standing between em and no difference they just wolf down the food whole. Some times they bring it back up and u can see the food in the same form u put it in the bowl. Due to this behaviour no matter how much i exercise them they wouldnt gain weight or tone up, just a pot gut and if they dont get the exact regular serving of food for 2days they can drop all their weight. What r any suggestions? |

| feeding two dogs I would highly recommend that you individually crate both dogs for feeding time. Many owners of multiple dogs must separate the dogs to ensure that each one gets the proper amount of food, and prevent any food aggression, etc. |

| I agree you might want to separate them both for eating either that or dont have them in the same room. But you might also want to get them use to being with each other while feeding. You dont want to keep them away forever.
About the contest they make is that an issue for you? Do they act aggrecive? |

| Yeah this tends to happen alot.. crating them will help ease the competition factor. I also recommend taking a look at this: http://www.brake-fast.net/?gclid=CJz...FQkSgQod5hTUFA
It's a new bowl that slows down the chow down, and makes their meal times safer and lessens the probability of bloat as well as other medical maladies that can happen as a cause to "wolf gulp syndrome". Good luck

| Easy solution - just put them in separate rooms or feed them in their crates. Problem solved. |

| My personal opinion is when you have two competitive power breeds, which you do have, you should feed them separately so that no aggression ever starts. Once started, it's difficult to stop, and terriers (pit bull) tend to hold a grudge. Head off problems, either feed them in their crates or in separate rooms.
And please make sure everyone is spayed/neutered. |

| Thanx! I have tried the separation thing but to me it just makes them worst. Especially the akita. She is very jealous and paying an ounce more attention to the pit causes trouble. If you call the pit the akita comes b4 the pit can get there. If the pit has to get medication she has to get medicated to. If u pet the pit u better pet her too. And whats weird is the pit does not like going for walks without the akita, u literally have to drag her. The thing is the pit is not aggressive or is the aggressor.

| They r 3yrs. I got the akita first then months later i got the pit. But the akita determined it was leader from the time it came. We had a little terrier b4 the akita and the akita hated it and the terrier hated the akita. |
