| Storms So this morning I took Dex out to piddle, but he didn't want to go. I brought him back in for breakfast, then right back outside, thinking maybe he needed a fill up first.
He did go pee once we went back out, but he wanted to go back inside almost immediately. He had the most worried/freaked out look on his face. I usually have a hard time getting him back inside, so this was all very unusual.
I think he might be able to sense the drop in pressure due to Tropical Storm Hanna, which is due to hit NJ today. I can't think of any other reason why he'd be so freaked out.
What do your dogs do before/during storms? My old dog used to hide under the computer desk when it thundered, ha. |

| Re: Storms They can hear the thunder before humans can, things can get so bad with my male that I have carry him out a good distance from the house to get him do do his thing. The male has a special corner he retreats to but he does not shake thats good! The weather does not even faze my female. The weather starts to bother me when the hail starts to get golf ball size and larger!!!! |

| Re: Storms Yes I beleive they know and can tell these things. I have a leaking disc in my neck-which hurts like the ****ens but also gives me the uncanny ability to be able to tell the change in presure when storms are coming. I can tell hubby it is gonna rain on a sunny day-and it does! |

| Re: Storms We were not sure how our dog would react when we first adopted her. Even though she has a few fear issues, loud noises are not one of them. She does not mind fireworks, guns, motorcycles, or storms. Sometimes when the thunder is really loud she will growl and go look out the window.
We had even prepared ahead of time just in case with a tee shirt and some rescue remedy. That was advise we had been given. Something about having them wear a tee shirt helps, and people swear by it. The rescue remedy is suppose to ease anxiety. You can get that at health food stores, and some pet stores.
Anyway, so our dog just lays around during storms for the most part. |

| Re: Storms On second thought, I don't think Dex is afraid of storms. It rained all day on Saturday, and it's thundering now. He doesn't seem phased. I had him out in the rain for a bit, which he didn't enjoy, but he wasn't that freaked out.
I can think of only two reasons he was afraid. The first, the people who live above us in our duplex just brought their dog here. I think he might have smelled the other dog in the backyard, which freaked him out a little. He later met the dog... a puny little Japanese Chin that came strolling up to him... and now he's fine with going in the yard.
My only other thought was that he got bit by a bug or something while goofing around in our ivy.
At least we know he's not terrified of storms. =) |
