Exclamation Jade's Emergancy Vet Visit today... Stomach pumped

Dear Lord!
School started today for my sister who is a senior in high school, and I had my second day of Cultural Geography for Educators... an important class that I need all attendance in, but today it was cut short.

Against my pleas, my mother chose to buy a doggy gate for Jade in order to keep her in the dog/playroom. I have been telling my mother that Jade NEEDS a kennel. Callahan and her are SOO different, she chews and destroys everything, Callahan could care less and has never chewed anything up, Callahan stays in my room while we are gone. The other dogs have the run of the front part of the house.

Anyway, Jade pushed through the damn gate and chewed it up. Then she went upstairs and chewed through 3 pairs of my moms shoes, THEN 1 pair of my sisters room. Then she came downstairs and got ahold of a whole IBProphen bottle. AHHHHH!!! My mom came home and found her on the floor still chewing through the bottle, all of the pills were gone, except for one on her lip. My mom called me screaming, my teacher heard her screams through the phone and I told her that I had to go NOW! She understood thank god... but I would miss the first important quiz.

I rushed and met my mom at the vet and Jade had her stomach pumped. Alot of the pills had already begun to dissolve. She ate at least 35 of them. Dear Lord! I am pretty upset with my mom right now, but at the same time, feel bad for her because she feels terrible. JADE IS DOING GOOD NOW. She is resting. I do not have a job right now, so I couldnt go out and buy the kennel, but my dad is going to get out some of my saved money to get it. (Money from graduation 2 years ago and past jobs, he ALWAYS made me save, thanks to him I still have 4,000 saved dollars, that he doesnt let me spend!) If my mom would have listened to me, this wouldnt have happened.

Good god, this was a close one, and poor thing still has her stitches on... now she is laying down feeling all nasty. The doc said she'd be just fine though. I'M ORDERING THE KENNEL!!! Pheww... okay just had to tell you all what happened.

Oh my gosh! I think you guys were so lucky! Ibuprofen causes problems with platelets and with all that she ate I am so happy nothing poked through her intestines. Im so happy that Jade is doing fine now and that you guys will be getting a crate after all. It's just too bad that this had to happen before getting a crate.

Im so happy to hear that she is okay. Thats the important thing and that you are getting the kennel so that it wont happen again. Did your sister find out right away? Jade is her dog right?

Yea that is what I said! I love my mom sooo much, but her argument was that it is not fair to Jade, and that we'll hurt her feelings because the other dogs can be free while we're gone but not her. It sucks that it took this incident to snap my mom out of it and realize that her safety is more important than her feelings I guess. I'm soo glad that she is okay... I dont know what I would have done. I've been pushing for a kennel for her ever since she grew out of her other one. It's alright now though... we'll get one now for damned sure.

Oh man thats a toughie... Today is her first day of her most important year of her life. She is basically the biggest athlete star in our whole Rio Grande Valley... she is the basketball queen. So we all, (my father, mother and I) decided not to tell her until she gets home from school. 1 scout from Hawaii and 2 from California were going to meet with her today for an interview... so she needs to be 100% clear in her head and heart. You know what I mean?

Wow, yeah hearing that about Jade would obviously distract her. Its nice that your family comes together for eachother with important things like these. Mine does too but I know not everyone is as lucky. Keep is updated with Jade.

Um... why do YOU need to pay for the kennel? She is your sister's dog, I though?

Yea, you would think that way... so do I most of the time. I really pleaded with my parents to not get 2 pups back when I found out my dad was going to let me adopt them. My dads argument is that if he does something for me he needs to do the same for my spoiled sister. (My sister is VERY materialistic and NEEDS things to make her content, I mean name brand clothes, 100 pairs of expensive shoes and so on and so on... she is really the stereotypical jock) I knew that she would not be given much attention from my sister... and she would not take care of her the way I take care of the dogs... but no, she wouldnt have it, she HAD to have a puppy. Now, I am the one that takes care of Jade. A hi and kiss from my sister to Jade during the day, and a bed to sleep in at night. I take Jade with me everywhere, I have to because if I do not do it, my sister wont. She does not have a job, and will not have one... she is the families savior... a full Basketball scholarship that will save my parents from having to pay for another 4 years of college. This happens every time we decide to get pups... ever since whooo alonggg time ago. My sister has to have one because I have one... but I end up with taking care of two and training two instead of just the one that I wanted.

She will not spend money on her... and when she leaves to college Jade will stay here with my parents. They do love her and take care of her... I just dont know if I will be able to take her along with Jodie, Callahan and Guera, plus Sampson (James' dog) when we get our own home. It sucks... but that is the truth of the matter. My sister is a spoiled little s**t, and I am the one that pays for it in the end. I love Jade so much... in reality... she is my dog, I do everything for her and with her... but my sister just likes to be able to say, I HAVE A GREAT DANE! but that is it.

Thats too bad Nessa, but it reminds me of my younger sister as well. She has a Siamese cat too and doesnt take care of her most of the time, my parents do. All I can do is hope she makes it in the "real world" after college.

That is exactly what I hope... I am not to sure that going away to college is going to be best for her... but what can ya do. They are going to give her the scholarship and all I can hope is that she doesnt drink her 17 year old a$$ off over there and screw up her grades.

That sounds alot like my younger brothers, Nessa.

Thankfully, they've grown out of it, and are more unique now. Maybe it was the constant me telling them to be their own person. I definitely get along better with them now than I used to though.

So glad to hear that Jade is doing alright. I guess she has a guardian Angel watching over her. Mom may have made a mistake but her timing saved Jades life. We all mistakes and most of us will learn from them. I bet your mom will never make another mistake like that again.

Nessa

That must have been sooo scary. I'm glad it was caught in time.

I've been through the same kind of stuff with my mom so I understand how hard it is to get through to a parent about doing stuff differently than the way they always did it.

Re: Jade's Emergancy Vet Visit today... Stomach pumped

Oh wow!! That sounded like it was a very close call! I'm so sorry but glad everything turned out alright. I agree with everyone else, it doesn't seem like it will be a mistake that your mom will make again. I can't imagine how horrible she must feel. At least Jade has you to look after her and it sounds like the rest of your family is very loving toward her. She's a lucky girl, in more ways than one.

Give her hugs from Eddie, Uallis and I. I'll keep her in my thoughts and hope for a speedy recovery.
